I Will Campaign Against Mahama . . . He Has Set A Bad Precedent - Maurice Ampaw

A controversial private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw says he will do whatever it takes to help unseat President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming Presidential polls.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw who was speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show programme, 'Ghana Montie' is also set to carry out a 10-day hunger strike in protest of Montie FM presenter and two panelists who have been granted remissioon by President John Dramani Mahama.

Two radio panelists, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako-Gunn and show host, Salifu Maase of an Accra-based radio station, Montie FM were jailed four months by the Supreme Court on July 27, 2016, for threatening to kill judges of the Court.

They were also fined 10,000 cedis each while the owners of the radio station, and the Directors were fined 30,000 cedis respectively.

Moment after their sentencing - a petition book was outdoored to collate signatures to petition the President to invoke his powers of pardon under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution to grant them pardon.

The President after receiving the petition referred it to the Council of State for advice who recommended the contemnors’ be released on compassionate ground.

In a statement signed by the Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, the President “granted a remission of sentence to the three inmates on August 22, 2016.”

This according to Maurice Ampaw is “unfortunate” – he also vowed to tirelessly campaign against the President who he said has set a “bad precedent”.
