Drake Now Has The Third-Most Top 10 Hits Among All Rappers

This week, Drake is back near the top of the charts after only a short break away, this time with a new song that has quickly become yet another hit for the hip-hop superstar in what will surely go down as an incredible year him. In only its second frame on the Hot 100, newly-released track “Fake Love” has bounded upwards, leaping from No. 24, where the song debuted, to No. 10.

By making it into the highest region on the all-genre singles tally, Drake moves up the ranking in terms of the rappers with the most top 10 hits. With 18 credits to his name, the Toronto-based hip-hop star is now in third place among all rappers with the highest number of appearances in the uppermost tier on the Hot 100.

Before the ascension of “Fake Love,” he was tied with Eminem at 17 entries, but he is now at the same level as Ludacris, though it might not be for long at the rate he’s sending songs to the top. Only two names stand in between him and the No. 1 position: Lil Wayne with 19 entries and Jay Z with 21. Again, these rankings may not stay as they are forever, as Drake is wasting no time in shooting new tracks up the all-encompassing singles tally, and his total figure is sure to rise.

“Fake Love” is not just another top 10 hit for Drake, it’s actually his fifth appearance in the region in 2016 alone. The More Life single follows in the massive footsteps of “Hotline Bling,” which first broke into the top 10 last year but held on into 2016 and Rihanna’s “Work,” as well as Drake’s own “Summer Sixteen,” and the 10-week No. 1 smash “One Dance.” With a new “playlist project” expected in December, Drake’s 18 top 10 hits could climb even higher, or that feat might have to wait until his next album, though if he continues at his recent level of output, that should come at some point in 2017. He first broke into the region in 2009, so it isn’t difficult to suspect that the coming year could bring at least a handful of additional top 10s to his name, putting him in the lead in no time.

Both Lil Wayne and Jay Z have slowed their output of hits recently, though they are by no means done creating music the masses want to hear, and the same can be said for Ludacris and certainly Eminem. The rank these men place in may change every year, but what’s certain is that Drake is sure to be among the biggest that have ever created music in the genre.
