Man steals GH¢ 11,000 ladies scarfs

A  casual worker  at Makola  who conspired with his friend to steal a quantity of ladies scarfs valued at GH¢ 11,000 has been sentenced to 24 months
imprisonment  by an Accra Magistrate Court.

Abdul Rahman Tahiru was charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment on each count to run concurrently.

He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The facts of the case as presented by the Prosecutor, Sergeant Lois Konadu, to the court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo, were that on August 21, 2016, the complainant employed the services of a truck pusher to convey her goods to her selling point at Rawlings Park.

The truck pusher, who is a customer of the complainant, was instructed to pack the items on one side of the truck since he was conveying someone else’s goods.
The prosecutor said when the complainant and the truck pusher left the place, Tahiru, who offloads goods at the market, conspired with his friend Mohammed, and stole the scarfs worth GH¢ 11,000 which they shared equally.

Sgt Konadu said Tahiru sent his share to Agbogbloshie market to sell while Mohammed sent his to the James town area.

Sgt Konadu said that when the complainant and the truck pusher later realised the items were nowhere to be found, they formed a search party to  trace the goods.

A couple of days later, the truck pusher was hinted that someone was selling a bunch of scarfs at James Town so he rushed to the area to verify for himself.

On reaching the area, he realised the scarfs being offered for sale were the exact missing items.

Sgt Konadu said when Mohammed was arrested, he mentioned Tahiru as the one who gave him the scarfs.

Some of the scarfs were then retrieved from him.

Tahiru was later arrested at Agbogbloshie while  selling his share of the  booty.

Mohammed was granted bail but failed to appear in court. A warrant  has, therefore, been issued for his arrest.
