New York rapper, Troy Ave in Stable Condition After Being Shot in Brooklyn

Rapper Troy Ave was shot in Brooklyn on Christmas night, according to both the NYPD and his attorney. The Brooklyn-born MC was reportedly shot in the arm and was grazed in the head by a bullet, and is in stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening, his lawyer confirmed.

Troy (real name Roland Collins) was in the headlines this year after being charged with attempted murder following a shooting backstage at Irving Plaza in Manhattan during a T.I. concert May 25.

Three people, including Troy, were injured in the shooting, while his bodyguard Ronald "Banga" McPhatter was killed. Troy spent six weeks in jail before being released on $500,000 bond on July 11. Both on record and through his lawyers, Troy has repeatedly claimed self-defense in the incident.

"Tonight, Troy Ave was targeted again...on Christmas," Scott Leemon, an attorney for the rapper, said in a statement obtained by Billboard. "In Brooklyn, going to meet his family for the holiday, he was shot two times. Thankfully, he will survive the second attempt on his life. As we have said from the beginning - he is a victim. We pray for his speedy recovery."

Leemon, following initial hearings over the Irving Plaza case in May, deflected accusations that Troy was the one who was the aggressor in the situation. "I said it in court, he's the real victim here," Leemon said at the time. "His longtime friend and bodyguard died trying to protect him.... As my co-counsel, John Stella, said in court, Troy has no criminal record and he is not a gangsta rapper."

One report said Troy was shot while driving a Maserati on E. 91st Street and Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn this evening. This post will be updated with more details as they become available.
