Angel TV raided for illegally airing Euro2016 games and Rio 2016 Olympics

The recent increase in TV stations in Ghana and limited content has in the last few years led to an increase in the abuse of content rights by a number of TV stations. This has led to loss of revenue to the audio visual creative industry and the many TV stations who have continuously invested in their people and content, and loss of tax revenue to the government from the illegal activities of these TV stations.
The Communications Fraud Unit of the Ghana Police, CID Headquarters recently raided the Angel TVstudios for infringing on the sports content rights of Supersport. The raid was conducted based on leads provided by Multichoice Ghana Ltd. Angel TV which came into business a few years ago, has been alleged to be illegally airing EURO 2016 Games and the on-going Rio 2016 Olympics Games without the required rights for Ghana.  During the operation, the Police seized gadgets/devices used in perpetrating this illegality.

The rights to these major sports meets (Rio Olympics, Premier …

John Dumelo didn’t get engaged yesterday

I woke up  to many messages on WhatsApp and Twitter asking whether John Dumelo was indeed married, and I sent him a message to find out what was happening.
Apparently actress Luckie Lawson posted on her Instagram page, “Congratulations on your engagement @johndumelo1 and thank you for letting me in on such a beautiful day like today,” which convinced many that John was indeed married.
John then explained to me that he rather attended the naming ceremony of a friend on Wednesday dressed in in all white. I remember seeing the actor and his friends at a naming ceremony via Snapchat so I immediately believed him.

Daily Guide has gathered that the prevailing economic hardship has forced the youth in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital of Ghana to turn to selling their blood at hospitals within the municipality for a living.

Two of them Felix Mensah and Clement Ofori, told DAILY GUIDE that, they sustain themselves with what they get from the blood donation.

Felix said anytime he felt the need for money, he would quickly rushed to either St. Joseph Hospital or the Regional Hospital to donate blood because at the end of the day, he makes some money.
According to him, he does that to fend for himself since he is jobless and has no one to support him, disclosing that, he makes about GH¢100 anytime he donates blood.

US to end federal use of private prisons

The US Justice Department will phase out use of privately owned prisons, citing safety concerns.
Contracts with 13 private prisons will be reviewed and and allowed to expire over the next five years.
"They do not save substantially on costs and ... they do not maintain the same level of safety and security," Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates said explaining the decision.
The majority of US prisoners are held in state-run prisons.
On Wall Street, the stocks of private prison companies declined sharply after the news was announced.
By Thursday afternoon, Corrections Corp stock had plunged by nearly 50%.
An Inspector General's report released this month found that private prisons saw higher rates of violent incidents and rule infractions in comparison with government-run institutions.
During the Democratic presidential primary race, Hillary Clinton's main rival Senator Bernie Sanders made a campaign promise to end the "private, for-profit prison racket".
