Everest's first woman climber Junko Tabei dies at 77

The first woman to ascend Everest, Japanese climber Junko Tabei, has died aged 77, her family say.
Tabei conquered Everest in May 1975, aged 35, before climbing all of the world's seven highest peaks by 1992.
She was diagnosed with cancer of the abdomen four years ago, and died in hospital in the city of Saitama.
Her last ascent was of Mount Fuji in July, alongside high school students affected by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Tabei was originally from Fukushima prefecture, that was badly affected by the disaster.
In 2012, Tabei told the Japan Times she was proud of how her ascent was viewed.
"Back in 1970s Japan, it was still widely considered that men were the ones to work outside and women would stay at home.
"Even women who had jobs - they were asked just to serve tea. So it was unthinkable for them to be promoted in their workplaces."
Her ascent of Everest came 12 days after she was swept away in an avalanche on the mountain. She was dug out by a guide …

Trump says he'll sue sexual misconduct accusers

Donald Trump vowed Saturday to sue the women who have accused him of sexual misconduct in recent weeks.
"Every woman lied when they came forward to hurt my campaign," Trump said during remarks in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. "Total fabrication. The events never happened. Never. All of these liars will be sued after the election is over." He added that a "simple phone call" to major news outlets "gets them wall-to-wall coverage with virtually no fact-checking ever." In the last two weeks, at least 10 women have come forward accusing Trump of inappropriately touching them. Their allegations came after a 2005 videotape surfaced of Trump bragging about being able to grope women and get away with it. Trump often threatens to file lawsuits without actually doing so. Earlier this month, he threatened to sue The New York Times when it published assault allegations against him, but nearly two weeks later, he has declined to follow through. Trump went …

Ghanaians must celebrate Mahama – Chief Dele

Business magnate and publisher of the Ovation Magazine has said President John Mahama deserves to be celebrated for his performance in government.

According Chief Dele Momodu, Ghana’s president has performed much better than most African leaders.

The Ovation publisher has come under fierce criticsms from many Ghanaians especially members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party for his display of affection for Mr. Mahama and his government.

Reacting to claims that he is doing propaganda for the President ahead of the December polls, chief Dele told the gathering during the launch of the latest edition of the magazine in Accra that Mr. Mahama has done a great job for Ghana.

“People read politics into everything but frankly speaking, there is so much to celebrate about President Mahama. He has done a great job. I have traveled extensively across the Africa and Ghana is working, Ghana is rising and it is our duty to celebrate Ghana.

“I think President Mahama has done well and a…

La Liga: Barca Beat Valencia, Iniesta Hurt

Barcelona came from behind to beat Valencia 3-2, while they were rocked by a serious looking injury to Andres Iniesta.
Iniesta was stretchered off after a tackle from Enzo Perez in the first half, but shortly afterwards Lionel Messi opened the scoring after a break saw him fire home at the near post.
However, Munir El Haddadi (on loan from Barca) got an equaliser in the second half and, minutes later, Nani laid on a fine cross for Rodrigo to pile on the misery for the Catalans.

But it was not long before Barcelona were back on level terms as Luis Suarez smashed home an equaliser after Diego Alves had made a fine save from Ivan Rakitic’s header.
And Messi converted an injury-time penalty to give Barcelona all three points.
Ten-man Espanyol fought back from a three-goal deficit to claim a 3-3 draw at home to Eibar at the RCDE Stadium.
Goals from Sergi Enrich, Kike and an own goal from Diego Reyes saw Eibar race into a 3-0 first-half lead, but second-half goals from Hernan Perez and Pa…

Bob Dylan's Nobel silence 'impolite and arrogant'

Bob Dylan's failure to acknowledge his Nobel Prize in literature is "impolite and arrogant", according to a member of the body that awards it.
The 75-year-old singer was named the shock winner of the prize last week.
But all efforts by the Swedish Academy to contact him have failed, and he has not acknowledged the win in public.

Academy member Per Wastberg told Swedish television: "He is who he is," adding that there was little surprise Dylan had ignored the news.
"We were aware that he can be difficult and that he does not like appearances when he stands alone on the stage," he told Sweden's Dagens Nyheter newspaper in a separate interview.
A reference to the prize was removed from Dylan's website last week.
It is still not known if he will travel to Stockholm to receive the prize on 10 December. If he does not, a ceremony marking his career will go ahead as planned, Mr Wastberg said.
Mr Wastberg called the snub "unprecedented",…

Prem: Gunners Held, Leicester Hit Three

Arsenal went top of the Premier League table but had to settle for a point as struggling Middlesbrough held them to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.
The Gunners dominated the early exchanges, with Mesut Ozil curling a free-kick over, but Boro began to take the game to their hosts and Petr Cech made a fine double save to deny Adama Traore and Alvaro Negredo.
Gaston Ramirez hit the angle with a free-kick before Alexis Sanchez had a 30-yard set piece tipped away well by Victor Valdes, with Valdes repeating the trick from the same player after the break.

Boro defended superbly to keep Arsenal at bay and continued to cause problems on the counter and Traore got away from two defenders before again making Cech work. As Arsenal battled in vain for a late breakthrough, Ozil had a late goal ruled out for offside.
Tottenham also missed an opportunity to hit the summit as they drew 0-0 at Bournemouth in a game of few clear chances.
In a bright opening on the south coast, the home side came close wh…

US election: Trump takes aim at First Lady Michelle Obama

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has launched a rare attack on Michelle Obama, saying "all she wants to do is campaign" for his rival.
He also accused the first lady of attacking Hillary Clinton in 2007 by invoking a line she had said about fitness to run the White House.
The Obama campaign had denied the line referred to Mrs Clinton.

Mrs Clinton, meanwhile, accused Mr Trump of threatening democracy if he did not accept the election result.

"We know the difference between leadership and dictatorship, and the peaceful transition of power is one of the things that sets us apart," she told a crowd in Cleveland, Ohio.
"Donald Trump refused to say that he'd respect the results of this election. By doing that, he's threatening our democracy."
At his own rally in North Carolina, Donald Trump told supporters, "I see how much [Michelle Obama] likes Hillary."
"But wasn't she the one that originally started the statement…

Pep Guardiola: I’d Rather Quit Than Change My Style

MANCHESTER — Pep Guardiola says he would rather quit Manchester City and go back to Spain than change his style of play.
The City boss has failed to win any of his last four games and was beaten 4-0 by Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Sergio Aguero was left on the bench at Camp Nou, and Claudio Bravo was sent off for handling the ball outside the box after fluffing a clearance.

Guardiola said it will take time for him and his players to adapt, but he insists he won’t change his attacking style.
“No, I’m not going to change. [If] it’s not going well in the future, next season isn’t going well in that way, I will go home to Spain,” he told a news conference ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Southampton on Sunday.
“You know what happens, I think about [an alternative], yeah. But after that the solution is not better than what I believe so I cannot.
“Do you know why as well, because in seven years I won 21 titles. I’m sorry guys. I won 21 titles in seven years. So …
