Trump, elected on Tuesday to his first public office, said he looked forward to more meetings with Obama. He noted it was the first time the two met face-to-face, and the White House said the meeting occurred with no staff present.

Obama offered to do everything he can to help the New York businessman succeed when he takes office on Jan. 20 and urged the country to unite to face its challenges.

North Korea has a message for the new US president: We're staying heavily armed

North Korea has issued an ominous warning to the incoming U.S. president, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Yonhap reported that a commentary in North Korea's major newspaper Rondon Sinmu did not refer to Donald Trump's victory specifically, but issued a veiled warning that the incoming administration would have to deal with a nuclear-armed North Korea.
The newspaper condemned outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama's "strategic patience" policy with North Korea - in which he continued to pressure the country with sanctions in an attempt to convince it to give up its weapons - with Rondon Sinmu saying that the policy had only left a bigger burden for his successor because Pyongyang used the time to become a nuclear state.

"Washington's hope for North Korea's denuclearization is an outdated illusion," the newspaper commentary said.
Yonhap also reported that although the rogue regime hel…

Prince Harry’s girlfriend reportedly taking time off work

Prince Harry’s new girlfriend Meghan Markle is taking some time off filming the TV show Suits as she tries to come to terms with what Harry has described as a “wave of abuse and harassment,” since the relationship became public knowledge.
Page Six reports that the actress, 35, has told her bosses that she needs to skip filming for her USA Network show “Suits” in Toronto this week because she has “something important to do.”

Page Six reports: “The reason for the absence is being kept a closely guarded secret, but insiders speculate that Markle is meeting with lawyers to help manage her turbulent and sudden rise to international fame.”

If Markle is having trouble coping with the attention since it was disclosed she is dating Harry, it may explain why, earlier this week, Prince Harry, 32, issued an unprecedented public statement accusing both mainstream and social-media trolls of racist abuse in coverage of his relationship with his new girlfriend, who has one white parent and on…

The Simpsons predicted Trump's victory 16 years ago

In a 2000 episode of popular cartoon, The Simpsons titled Bart To The Future, Donald Trump was president. The iconic cartoon's creator, Matt Groening, said Trump was the most absurd joke name they could think of at that time and that was why his character was featured:
'Trump was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that’s still true. It’s beyond satire.'
Dan Greaney, a writer for the Simpsons also said that the clip had a dark message behind it:
'It was a warning to America. That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom.  It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.’  According to the plot of that episode, Lisa Simpson inherited a tattered economy from President Trump. In the episode she said:
'We’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump. How bad does it get?' Her staff let her know in graph form that her country is broke due to…

Ivory Coast Bans Sale of Sachets Alcohol

Ivory Coast’s government has banned the production, importation and sale of alcohol in sachets on health grounds.
The small plastic bags, containing rum, vodka or other spirits, are popular with those on a budget – costing between $0.35 (£0.28) and $1.65.
The ban was aimed at minimising the impact of alcohol on young people, especially students, government spokesman Bruno Kone said.

A ban on the sale of water in plastic bags led to protests two years ago.
They were banned by the Ivorian authorities in a bid to reduce pollution.
The decision to ban the sachets of alcohol was taken after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday and had been proposed by the ministry of commerce, Mr Kone said.
“These products are mostly smuggled into the country,” the APA news agency quotes him as saying.
“They do not meet our standards and therefore constitute a real threat to the health of consumers – and a threat to the country’s economy.”
Cameroon, Malawi and Senegal have also banned the sale and production of a…

Thousands of people have taken to the streets in several US cities to protest against Republican Donald Trump's surprise victory in the presidential election, condeming his campaign rhetoric around immigrants, Muslims and other groups.
On Wednesday evening, thousands of protesters thronged streets in midtown Manhattan, New York City. Some burned a US flag as they reached the Trump Tower while other chanted: "Not my president".

In Chicago, roughly 1,000 people attempted to gather outside the Trump International Hotel and Tower downtown while chanting phrases like "No Trump! No KKK! No racist USA".
Chicago police closed roads in the area, blocking the demonstrators' path.
Protesters condemned Trump's campaign pledge to build a wall along the border with Mexico to keep out undocumented immigrants and other policies perceived as affecting people of colour.
In his victory speech, however, Trump said he would be president for all Americans, saying: "It…

Obama, Trump to set differences aside for awkward White House meeting

U.S. President Barack Obama will host an awkward meeting with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday in their first public step toward a peaceful transition of power after the Republican businessman's surprise election victory.
The two men have had almost no one-on-one contact previously. Trump led the "birther" movement that questioned Obama's U.S. citizenship and has pledged to overturn the Democratic president's signature policy achievements after he takes office on Jan. 20

Obama campaigned vigorously for Trump's Democratic rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and called Trump both temperamentally unfit for the presidency and dangerously unprepared to have access to U.S. nuclear codes.

They will seek to put that history behind them, at least for the cameras, during a meeting in the Oval Office at 11 a.m. First lady Michelle Obama will also meet privately with Trump's wife, Melania, in the White House residence.
