FIFA: African footballer, 17, takes world governing body to court

A 17-year-old African footballer is taking FIFA to court, arguing football's world governing body is denying him the chance to further his career.
The legal move comes a month after FIFA hit Spain's football federation with a $216,000 fine for allowing two of its most famous clubs -- Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid -- to sign underage players. FIFA's laws regarding minors are intended to protect youngsters -- it toughened up regulations last year for instance by changing the age required for an International Transfer Certificate from 12 to 10 -- most of whom won't ever play professionally due to the immense competition. But "he and his family miss the probably unique chance of a professional and social advancement," a press release from the Swiss-based lawyers representing the player and his parents stated.  When contacted by CNN, the firm representing the lawyers working with the parents and the 17-year-old, who has played for "the national y…

Komenda Sugar factory to reopen next week - Spio-Garbrah

Trade Minister Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah says the Komenda Sugar factory will reopen for operations next week after it closed down in July.
The Minister said the factory, a signature economic achievement for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, closed down after the sugar cane season petered off.
The factory was built in the 1960s under the first post-independence government of the Convention Peoples Party but depressing economic fortunes forced the closure of the sugar-producing plant in the 1980s.
Government, with the help of a $35-million Indian Exim Bank facility, revived the factory on May 30, 2016.
The plant with an annual production capacity of at least 225,000 metric tons of sugar cane however shut down a few weeks after it was commissioned.

The shut down fuelled criticism from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the commissioning of the project was for propaganda value rather than sound economic judgement.
The PRO of Trade Ministry Akrasi Sarpong, however,…

Prosecutors seek prison term for Eto'o

Spanish prosecutors are seeking a prison term of more than 10 years for former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o for alleged tax crimes committed when he played for the Catalan club.
In addition to a sentence of 10 years and six months, prosecutors are also demanding a fine of $15.1 million for the four counts of tax fraud for supposedly defrauding Spain's tax authority of almost $4 million from 2006-09, according to court documents released Thursday.

Prosecutors are seeking the same punishment for the player's representative at the time, Jose Maria Mesalles Mata.

The administrator of a company that facilitated the deals, Manuel de Jesus Lastre Abreu, is facing more than six years in prison and a fine of $2.3 million.
Prosecutors also want Eto'o to relinquish any possible fiscal incentives for a long period.
Eto'o and his lawyers could not be immediately contacted for comment, but in the past the player denied wrongdoing, saying he was not directly involved i…

Wilbur Ross, the billionaire investor considered the "king of bankruptcy" for buying beaten-down companies with the potential to deliver profits, is President-elect Donald Trump's choice for commerce secretary, a senior transition official said.
The official isn't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and requested anonymity.

With a Florida home down the road from Trump's Mar-a-Lago retreat, the 78-year-old Ross played a role in crafting and selling the president-elect's tax-cut and infrastructure plans. Ross has suggested that much of America is disgruntled because the economy h…

Facebook users receive $15 checks after it used members' names and faces in adverts without their permission (Photos)

A group of Facebook users have received payouts from the social media giant, Facebook, for a class action lawsuit between Fraley vs Facebook on an account of the company using images belonging to people in ‘Sponsored Story ads’ without getting their permission first.
According to MailOnline, five plaintiffs claimed that the site used their image for 'Sponsored Story ads', which are created when members 'like' company pages or websites.
The suit also claimed that consent was not received by the parents of people under the age of 18, whose images were used by the giant company, for ads.

Facebook was then ordered to pay $20 million to all those who joined the suit as at May 2, 2013, when the case was been tried in court as part of settlement from the case which was filed in April 2011.

However, Facebook is said to have broken a Californian law which states that companies are forbidden from using the likeness of people in ads, without their consent. This was after …

Donald Trump calls for unity in Thanksgiving holiday address

US President-elect Donald Trump has called for national unity in an address to mark the Thanksgiving holiday.
In the wake of what he called a "long and bruising" election campaign he said emotions in the country were raw.
The time had come, he said, "to begin to heal our divisions" but added that "tensions just don't heal overnight".
Earlier he announced the appointment of two women to his cabinet, both of whom had been fiercely critical of him during the presidential campaign.
In his Thanksgiving address, Mr Trump acknowledged the bitterness still remaining after the bruising election campaign: "It doesn't go quickly, unfortunately, but we have before us the chance now to make history together to bring real change to Washington, real safety to our cities, and real prosperity to our communities, including our inner cities."
On Wednesday, Mr Trump announced that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was his pick for US ambassador to the…

Conjoined Twins Look Stunned to See Each Other for First Time After Being Separated

Formerly conjoined twins Anias and Jadon McDonald began new lives last month when they were separated in a 27-hour surgery.
The boys lived for 13 months conjoined by the tops of their heads, with shared brain tissues and entwined blood vessels.

Now, six weeks after a marathon surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx in New York City, the brothers are set to begin rehab sessions, CNN reports. The pair has made a record recovery and will soon learn to crawl, walk and lift their heads — all things they couldn’t previously do.

In a photo from the recovery room, the boys can be seen looking one another in the eyes for the first time. They both stare with mouths agape, looking stunned.

While they’ve made a speedy recovery, the past month has not been without its challenges: Both boys have had at least one seizure and have required skin grafts following infections in their scalps.

With twins conjoined at the head, there’s always a dominant child whose heart and lungs work overt…

Mexican cement maker ready to help Trump build border wall

A Mexican cement maker is ready to lend its services to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to build the wall he wants to erect on the southern border of the United States to curb immigration.
"We can't be choosy," Enrique Escalante, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) said in an interview. "We're an important producer in that area and we have to respect our clients on both sides of the border."

Republican Trump campaigned vowing to build a "big, beautiful, powerful" wall across the 2,000 mile (3,200 km) frontier in order to stop illegal immigrants from Mexico, which he accused of sending rapists and drug traffickers north.

The campaign of the New York businessman who has never previously held public office was widely reviled in Mexico.

Parts of the border are already divided by high fences, and a huge part of the boundary runs along the Rio Grande river.

Based in Chihuahua, a large northern state bordering Texas and New…
