Aubameyang leads cast as hosts Gabon name final Nations Cup squad

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads the cast for Gabon as the hosts became the first team to name their final 2017 Africa Cup of Nations squad.
The team captain and Borussia Dortmund star will lead the home players out for the opening game of the tournament against debutants Guinea-Bissau on 14 January in Libreville.
Gabon have also named Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong despite the player being left out of November's World Cup qualifier in Mali.
Ndong was in the capital city Libreville but failed to turn up for international duty ahead of the Mali game last month, forcing the Gabonese Football Federation [Fegafoot] to send him back to England.
But a remorseful Ndong, who held clear-the-air talks with Fegafoot has been included in a 23-man Panthers squad.
Other names to make the final party include Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, Bruno Ecuélé Manga of Cardiff City and China-based striker Malick Evouna.
Gabon coach José Antonio Camacho included three domestic-based stars and al…

Gambia crisis: Adama Barrow urges Jammeh to quit

The Gambia's President-elect Adama Barrow has called on long-serving ruler Yahya Jammeh to give up power peacefully, like former colonial power Britain did in 1965.
Mr Barrow, a property developer, said he did not want to lead a nation that was not at "peace with itself".
Mr Jammeh initially accepted defeat in the 1 December poll but then launched court action to annul the result.
The Gambia has not had a smooth transfer of power since independence.
Mr Jammeh has ruled the West African state since taking power in a bloodless coup in 1994.
It is a popular tourist destination because of its beaches.
The West African regional grouping Ecowas has warned it will send troops to oust Mr Jammeh if he refuses to step down when his term expires on 19 January.
Mr Jammeh says the poll was marred by irregularities and has demanded a new election.
'Better example to our children'
The electoral commission has rejected the allegation and Mr Barrow has said he will declare him…

Wiyaala’s Festival Dream Realised In The Upper West Region

It began so well. The people of Wa came in numbers expecting a night of quality music headlined by Ghana’s queen of AfroPop and supported by local artists. Wiyaala’s mission is to establish an annual music festival to shine the light on talent from the Upper West Region.

The same region from which she struggled for many years to make a career as a musician and to which she was now offering to give back some of her fame to help her peers.

Patrons arriving at the venue would have appreciated the renovations her team had made to the Wa Community Centre, which had been freshly painted, decorated by artists and equipped with a locally manufactured stage displaying an array of musical instruments awaiting the Djimba World Band’s arrival on stage.

It soon became apparent that demand for VIP tickets was high and the VIP areas were extended as more chairs were brought for the comfort of the fans. At 10pm, The Djimba World Band climbed the stage and played popular African and Weste…

Chiefs threaten to close down Immigration School

The Chiefs of Assinman Traditional Area of the Central region have threatened to close down the country’s Immigration School located in the area.
The chiefs are livid, complaining the security agency has failed since the inception of the school in 1998 to give admission quota to indigenes.
Addressing the media in Assin Fosu, the president of Assinman Traditional Council Nana Amoah Kuntin condemned the protracted neglect, although one of the conditions for releasing the land to government was to grant them protocol admissions.
Other monetary compensations due them, he added, have also not been paid.
He claimed the government has failed to address their grievances.
Nana Kuntin said recently some 3000 recruits were brought in to be trained at the school, but officials told the chiefs they were Liberians, only to notice later that they were actually Ghanaians.
He served notice the youth will be mobilized to disrupt teaching until the government heed their plea.

Russia finds first flight recorder from Black Sea crash jet

Russia has found the first flight recorder from a military plane that crashed into the Black Sea killing all 92 on board, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday, amid unconfirmed reports that authorities had grounded all aircraft of the same type.
The recorder, one of several reported to be on board, contains information that could help investigators identify the cause of Sunday's crash, which killed dozens of Red Army Choir singers and dancers en route to Syria to entertain Russian troops in the run-up to the New Year.
Investigators have so far said that pilot error or a technical fault, rather than terrorism, are most likely to have caused the Defence Ministry Tupolev-154 to crash into the sea.
The first black box, which was founded by a remote-controlled underwater vehicle at a depth of around 55ft (17 metres) and 1 mile (1,600 metres) from the resort of Sochi, will be sent to a Defence Ministry facility in Moscow for analysis.
"During the night during the (search ope…

Kanye West Adds a Dash of Pink to His Blond Hair — Check Out His New Look

Looks like Kylie Jenner‘s hair-chameleon habits are starting to rub off on her family members — perhaps most surprisingly on her brother-in-law Kanye West.
The rapper was spotted on his way out of a movie theater in Los Angeles on Monday — which, by the way, he’s been doing a lot lately. But aside from his newfound dedication to catching all of this year’s buzzy Oscar contenders, it’s West’s subtle new ‘do that’s got our attention. Since he was last seen, he’s added a shade of pink to the back of his newly-dyed bright blond hair, which he first debuted after being hospitalized last month.
In addition to the fresh dye job, West — who was alone — was rocking army pants, a white sweatshirt and a shearling jacket.
The hair update comes at a trying time for the singer: He spent over a week hospitalized for exhaustion last month amid growing concerns about his erratic behavior. In addition to canceling the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour, PEOPLE also recently confirmed West will n…

Trump says UN just a club for people to 'have a good time'

Days after the United Nations voted to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, Donald Trump questioned its effectiveness Monday, saying it's just a club for people to "have a good time."
The president-elect wrote on Twitter that the U.N. has "such great potential," but it has become "just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!"
On Friday, Trump warned, "As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th," referring to the day he takes office.
The decision by the Obama administration to abstain from Friday's U.N. vote brushed aside Trump's demands that the U.S. exercise its veto and provided a climax to years of icy relations with Israel's leadership.
Trump told The Associated Press last December that he wanted to be "very neutral" on Israel-Palestinian issues. But his tone became decidedly more pro-Israel as the presidential campaign progressed. He has s…

Andre Ayew scores first West Ham goal on Swansea return

Andre Ayew scored his first West Ham goal on his return to Swansea as the Hammers crushed his former side 4-1.
Swansea City slumped to a third consecutive loss as West Ham United put further distance between themselves and the Premier League relegation zone with a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium on Monday.
Home keeper Lukasz Fabianski's mistake allowed former Swansea player Andre Ayew to put West Ham ahead after 13 minutes and the nearest Swansea came to equalising before the break was Gylfi Sigurdsson's free kick that was saved by Darren Randolph.

West Ham doubled their advantage in the 50th minute when defender Winston Reid met Dimitri Payet's corner with a header that gave Fabianski no chance.

Second-bottom Swansea had plenty of possession but West Ham were defensively solid and Michail Antonio put the result beyond doubt when he turned in Havard Nordtveit's shot.

Fernando Llorente grabbed a late consolation for the hosts but there was still time…
