‘La La Land’ Ties Oscar Record With 14 Nominations
Golden Globes darling “La La Land” continues to win the hearts of critics, as Damien Chazelle’s musical tied a record with 14 Oscar nominations Tuesday, including nods for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director.
“All About Eve” and “Titanic” also received 14 nominations, with six and 11 wins, respectively. Both films won for Best Picture, where “La La Land” is competing with a deep field of nine, including “Manchester by the Sea” and “Moonlight,” which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama. “La La Land” claimed the trophy for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
Stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who won Golden Globes for Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, were both nominated for the main acting awards, and Chazelle repeated his Golden Globe nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay. “La La Land” won the Golden Globe in every category in which it was nominated earlier this month.
“La La Land” picked up two nominations in the best original song category, for “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars.” The movie also received nominations for original score, sound mixing, sound editing and production design.
Since opening on Dec. 9, “La La Land” has grossed $90 million domestically and $174 million worldwide.
