BNI storms Lantey Vanderpuije’s house over stolen cars

Officials of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have stormed the private residence of former Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije at Aplaku near Weija in search of alleged stolen State vehicles.

Starrfmonline.com understands the MP for Odododiodoo is out of the country currently, but the taskforce met his wife who refused to let them in because they had no search warrant.

The outspoken lawmaker has confirmed the news to Starr Today’s Bernard Nasara Saibu on Tuesday.

“I don’t have a State vehicle in my possession. I returned the four wheel drive and I was made to buy the car [a Toyota Avensis] I was using,” he said.

He described the operation as “uncivilised and beyond the civilisation of this world… I don’t think it is the intelligent way of handling this thing.”

Mr. Vanderpuije added: “What is even annoying me is that my children had closed from school and they couldn’t enter the house because my wife had closed the gate and didn’t want to allow them in. It is unheard of. What sort of madness is this?”

Mr. Vanderpuije is the fourth high profile National Democratic Congress (NDC) personality whose residence has been stormed over missing State vehicles. The first was the National Organiser of the NDC Mr. Kofi Adams then James Agyenim Boateng of the office of the former Vice President, the MP for Sekyere Afram Plains Alex Mensah and an NDC constituency secretary at Trobu.

According to the chairman of the Executive Assets Sub Committee of the Transition Team, Ayikoi Otoo, 234 state-owned vehicles are still missing after the change of government.
