Mel B now wants full custody of daughter in divorce: report

Former Spice Girl Mel B wants full custody of her 5-year-old daughter with estranged husband Stephen Belafonte.

The singer had originally requested to share custody of their only child, Madison, with Belafonte when she filed for divorce last month — but she's altering her divorce petition due to her ex's alleged history of domestic violence with another woman coupled with his illegal possession of a gun, TMZ reports.

Mel B — real name Melanie Brown — wasn't aware that Belafonte had been convicted for domestic violence involving another woman when she filed for divorce in March, according to the report.
She was reportedly aware that Belafonte had a gun but did not realize he owned it illegally, contributing to her decision to change her custody aspirations.

The 41-year-old pop star has accused Belafonte of repeated domestic violence, claiming in a bombshell court filing earlier this week that her husband had punched, choked and berated her during their relationship.

She also claimed he told her in 2014 that he had gotten their family nanny pregnant.

She detailed multiple alleged incidents in the filing, including one that she claims occurred in 2007.

"He was in a rage and I had no idea why," Mel B alleged in her statement. "He placed both of his hands around my neck and began choking me. He then slammed me down onto the hardwood floor." Belafonte has denied her allegations.

Mel B, who was known in her girl group as Scary Spice, was awarded a temporary restraining order this week, and hopes to make it permanent, according to TMZ.

She doesn't want Belafonte to communicate with or see either of her kids — 10-year-old Angel or 18-year-old Phoenix — from previous relationships, the gossip site reported.

She might reportedly sign off on Belafonte seeing Madison during monitored visits eventually, but not in the immediate future. He requested joint custody of the 5-year-old.
