Mel B’s estranged husband could be prosecuted on weapons charges

Stephen Belafonte, the estranged husband of Spice Girl Mel B, could face federal charges for possession of weapons.

The 41-year-old is not allowed to have guns or ammunition after a previous domestic violence conviction — and he's now being accused of domestic violence and sexual exploitation by Mel B in a restraining order request filed Monday, TMZ reports.

Authorities obtained a search warrant on Friday to raid Belafonte's home, but did not find a gun, according to reports.

However, other evidence such as a shell casing and a bullet was discovered, but the gossip site reports that is not enough to be considered "ammunition."

Other evidence was also reportedly seized from the home and the case is being reviewed by the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles for possible prosecution.

Both Mel B and Belaftone's brother would testify against him, noting they have seen his firearm on multiple occasions.

The news comes just after shocking court documents filed by Mel B — whose real name is Melanie Brown — revealed that Belafonte punched, choked, berated her — and got the nanny pregnant during the nearly 10 years they were married.

The couple has three children together and Brown, 41, was granted a restraining order that Belafonte could not come near her or the children.

Belafonte could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of illegal possession.
