32 year old woman, Heather Heyer identified as victim of Charlottesville car attack
32 year old Heather Heyer has been identified as the
only woman who died when a car rammed into a group of people who were
protesting the presence of white supremacists who had gathered in the
city of Charlottesville for a rally in the United States yesterday.
Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer described her death and the injury of others as a "terrorist attack with a car used as a weapon."
The car's driver, James Alex Fields Jr. has been arrested and charged
with second-degree murder and other counts. The rally's purpose was to
condemn a decision by the city to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
Federal law enforcement authorities have also started a civil rights investigation into attack.
