Over 400 Hajj Pilgrims airlifted

The first batch of Muslims on the Hajj Pilgrimage from Ghana was airlifted Friday evening to the holy land of Mecca.
It comes as a huge relief to the Hajj Board and the government following a setback on Thursday leading to the cancellation of the original flight.

The frustrated pilgrims were full of smiles when the Lion Air plane touched down at the Tamale International Airport around 6.40pm. They left Ghana to Saudi Arabia at 10 pm.

Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who has been in Tamale this week to ensure a successful Hajj take off thanked the pilgrims for their patience.

He wished them a “successful religious exercise” in Mecca.

Dr. Bawumia assured that despite the delay “the schedule will continue and we will ensure that no one at the end of the day will be left behind. Everybody will get to go.”
