Police announce temporary closure of public roads in Accra on Monday

The Accra regional police command will close three major roads to traffic Monday October 16 in the capital ahead of the state visit to Ghana by the president of Cote d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara.

The purpose of the visit, according to the presidency is to deepen further the already strong relations that exist between the two countries, as well as explore other areas of co-operation to their mutual benefit.

This visit is a reciprocal one to the visit made to Cote d’Ivoire by the President Akufo-Addo, in May this year, at the start of his tour of the countries of West Africa and it will be the first time the two heads of state are meeting after the crucial maritime boundary dispute ruling by the international maritime court that handed victory to Ghana.

The roads to be closed are; the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue towards the Central Business District, Atta Mills Highway from James Towns towards Osu and Liberation Road towards the Central Business District.

A statement Sunday announcing the development said the roads will be closed to traffic at 11 and re-opened immediately after the ceremonial procession.

The Command has therefore advised motorists to note the following diversions before embarking on their journeys:

Traffic from Liberation Road should use Kaokudi to Kanda Highway and link up on the Barnes Road to the Central Business District.

Traffic from Achimota should link up with Obasanjo Highway through to Kanda Highway and link up to the Barnes Road to the Central Business District.

“Any inconveniences are deeply regretted,” it added.
