National Service insurance policy now optional

The management of the National Service Scheme has announced its proposed insurance policy for personnel will now be optional for interested personnel.

“The decision was taken at an Emergency Executive Council Meeting of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) held in Accra yesterday, after broad consultations with major stakeholders on the policy, and how best it would serve the interest of national service personnel,” a statement by the Ag. Executive Director, Ussif Mustapha said.

It said the management has consequently decided to suspend the mandatory monthly deductions of GHȻ15.00 from personnel allowances, and urged all National Service personnel to remain calm as their concerns regarding the insurance policy are being addressed.

The introduction of the policy as a compulsory offer saw personnel protest vehemently, including a resort to court action against what they described as an imposition.
