What To Watch In December On DStv

It’s the start of a brand-new month, and with it comes a host of new and exciting programming to look forward to on DStv.

Feel the beat

With our music channels and audio bouquet, there’s so much music to enjoy, for every mood and every occasion. And this month, there’s an extra treat for DStv subscribers with concerts from some of the world’s biggest stars.

But first, there’s the Soul Train Awards, hosted by Erykah Badu.

WATCH: 2017 Soul Train Awards, Thursday, 7 December at 7pm on BET.

Hosted by Erykah Badu, the 2017 Soul Train Awards will see performances from Toni Braxton, SWV, Tamar Braxton, 112, Tank and Kirk Franklin to name just a few. And we can’t wait to see if some of our favourites including H.E.R., SZA, Solange, Bruno Mars and Chance The Rapper will walk away with the coveted awards.

M-Net is also in the festive spirit, and they’ll bring us Harry Styles Live in Manchester and Madonna Rebel Heart on 24 December from 4pm.

And on New Year’s Eve, you can sing along when the channel presents Sam Smith Live in London and the annual Royal Variety Performance from 4pm. With guests including the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, they will enjoy performances from Amber Riley (Mercedes in Glee), Beverly Knight, James Blunt, Louis Tomlinson, Paloma Faith and Seal.

Bold documentaries

The life and times of Pablo Escobar is fascinating, and this time, the Discovery Channel is on the hunt for the Colombian’s millions.

Join the host Doug as he travels to Colombia, meeting up with sources who takes him to Escobar’s safe houses, as they try to find the millions. Watch Finding Escobar’s Millions on 27 December at 7pm only on the Discovery Channel.

You can also stream The Rise and Fall of El Chapo on Crime and Investigation on DStv Now on 9 December at 7:40pm. This captivating documentary will look at the Mexican drug lord, who is becoming as famous for successfully escaping from prison as for his “day job”.

Festive programming

If you’re a fan of the ITV Choice series Victoria, we’re sure you’d appreciate Victoria’s Christmas Special on 25 December at 6pm.

With Victoria and Albert’s growing family, we can’t wait to see how they celebrate this special time of year, and how they face whatever obstacle that comes their way, together.

Blockbuster movies

With movies for every mood we are spoilt for choice this December. We’ve already diarised two of the Sunday Night Blockbusters we’re looking forward to seeing: Beauty and the Beast (17 December) and Lion (24 December).

Another movie we can’t wait for is The Birth of a Nation on 8 December at 7:30pm on Vuzu AMP.

With an all-star cast including Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane), Aja Naomi King (How To Get Away With Murder), Armie Hammer (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Aunjanue Ellis (The Help) and Penelope Ann Miller (The Artist), The Birth of a Nation tells the story of an imprisoned slave Nat Turner, who led a rebellion.

Riveting sport matches

With the local and international football leagues in full swing, we have to make sure you don’t miss out on these matches, so download our DStv Now app, just in case you won’t be home to follow the action.

Champions League action is on 5 and 6 December and the match we’re most looking forward to seeing is Bayern Munich v PSG on 5 December.

Manchester Derby Pep Guardiola’s City is sitting pretty at the top of the table, and Jose Mourinho’s United isn’t too far behind. What will happen at the derby on 10 December?

The last time Arsenal faced Liverpool, they lost by four goals. Can Arsene Wenger’s men redeem themselves, or will JĂ¼rgen Klopp’s team do the double on 22 December?

One of the biggest matches in La Liga is undoubtedly El Clasico. This classic encounter between Barcelona and Real Madrid is taking place on 23 December and what we can predict is that things will be intense at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

There’s also nothing quite like Boxing Day football. With eight matches live on SuperSport, tune in from 12:30pm to see what the day’s action will do to the Premier League table.

Download our DStv Now app and enjoy great TV entertainment with DStv, this festive season.
