'Hollywood' sign changed to 'Hollyweed' in new year prank

Residents of Los Angeles' most famous neighbourhood woke up on New Year's Day to find the world-famous Hollywood sign had been changed to read "Hollyweed".
Local media reported that police were treating the incident as minor trespass and were investigating. The sign on Mount Lee is made of 45-foot (13.7m) tall letters.
Voters in California approved the legalisation of marijuana in a ballot held at the same time as the presidential election - on 8 November.
The prank has not caused lasting damage to the sign, however, as parts of both "O" letters were covered by tarpaulins to make them look like a lower-case letter "E".
The Los Angeles Times reports that a single person was recorded on security cameras climbing the sign to hang the materials.
A similar prank took place in 1976, to mark a relaxation in the state's marijuana laws.

'Recuperating' Queen Misses New Year Church Service

Queen Elizabeth II will skip church Sunday because she's still suffering from a heavy cold that delayed her holiday travel, royal officials said.
The 90-year-old British morning will not attend the New Year's Day church service near her country retreat at Sandringham, Norfolk.

She and her husband, Prince Philip, fell ill days before Christmas, forcing her to delay her trip to the estate and to miss a Christmas Day ceremony at St Mary Magdalene church.

Other members of the royal family were expected to attend as normal.

A Buckingham Palace statement released Sunday said: "Her Majesty The queen will not attend Sunday worship at Sandringham today. The queen does not yet feel ready to attend church as she is still recuperating from a heavy cold."

(Video) Pharrell's Singing Partner Caught On Tape In Homophobic Rant

Gospel singer Kim Burrell, who has been helping Pharrell promote the “Hidden Figures” soundtrack, is facing intense criticism following the release of a video in which she calls gay people “perverted” and says they have “embarrassed” God during a sermon at a church.
In the video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Friday, Burrell, a pastor at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church in Houston, is seen issuing an unambiguously homophobic rant to the audience. “I came to tell you about sin,” Burrell says.
“That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women ..." She then adds, “It has come into our church and it has embarrassed the kingdom of God.”

Burrell soon starting trending on Twitter after the video was uploaded, with many quick to note that she has worked with bisexual R&B singer Frank Ocean in the past, and is scheduled to appear on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” with Pharrell on Thursday. Pharrell and Burre…

Mourinho frustrated with Ivory Coast over Bailly departure

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho voiced his frustration with Ivory Coast after they refused to delay Eric Bailly's Africa Cup of Nations departure by 24 hours.
Bailly featured in United's starting XI in Saturday's 2-1 win over Middlesbrough and Mourinho was hoping the defender would be available to take on West Ham on Monday as well.
But Mourinho told the club's website Ivory Coast's coach Michel Dussuyer was not willing to take the risk as they prepare to defend their African title.
"Bailly is leaving - he goes to the national team," said Mourinho.
"He has to be with them on 2 January. We asked them for him to be on 3 January but they refused, so he cannot play against West Ham.
"With these kind of decisions they are controlling every second, so for sure they are going to win the African Cup," said Mourinho.
But the United manager says the club should not be harmed in the short-term.
"I know I lose Bailly for a month so I'm g…

Drunk Canada pilot arrested in cockpit before take-off

A pilot who was drunk in the cockpit has been arrested shortly before take-off in Canada.
Two hours after his arrest, the 37-year-old man was found to have more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his body.
His plane, part of the Sunwing budget airline, later left Calgary for Cancun, Mexico, with a different pilot. There were more than 100 people on board.
The incident happened at 07:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Saturday.
Airline staff noticed the pilot behaving strangely, and then he passed out. They alerted the authorities and the man was escorted from the cockpit.
He has now been charged with being in charge of an aircraft while being impaired.
Police spokesman Paul Stacey told a news conference the police would "wait for him to sober up somewhat before he goes before a justice of the peace".
He said: "It had all the potential for a disaster but I'll tell you this much - the likelihood of a pilot on a major airline like this actually being able to …
