Billionaire blogger Linda Ikeji is Nigeria’s most influential woman

Linda Ikeji is excited and she has every reason to be. The 36-year-old media mogul topped the list of 10 most influential women in Nigeria 2016 for VL Magazine. “Yay! I topped VL magazine’s Most Influential Women in Nigeria 2016 list,” she announced on her renowned blog.
Linda beat Folorunsho Alakija, one of the richest women in the world, Mo Abudu, one of Africa’s most successful women, and Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage to clinch the number one position of being the most influential woman in Africa’s most populous country last year.
“Awww, so honoured! The part of affecting people’s lives positively is the one that gladdens my heart the most,” she explained. Adding that she would be doing a lot of reach out this year.


While being number one on the list is subjective to the publication, especially as the metric for the index is unknown, the blogger turned media and social media entrepreneur is deservingly one of Nigeria’s most influential women. Linda is one of the pioneers…

Obama briefed on Florida shooting, Trump speaks with governor

President Obama has been briefed on the fatal shooting at the Fort Lauderdale airport.
Officials say five people were killed and a suspect was taken into custody after a lone gunman opened fire at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.
According to White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price: “The President was apprised this afternoon by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco of the shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport and will be kept updated as the investigation unfolds.”
President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that he’s monitoring the “terrible situation” as well, and has spoken with Gov. Rick Scott. Monitoring the terrible situation in Florida. Just spoke to Governor Scott. Thoughts and prayers for all. Stay safe! — Donald J. The President-elect of Gambia has congratulated the 5th President of Ghana H.E President Nana Akuffo-Addo for his accomplishment.

Nana Addo sworn-in as Ghana’s 5th President of 4th Republic of Ghana

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  has been sworn-in as Ghana’s 5th President of the 4th Republic, after winning the recently held Presidential elections in December, 2016.

Taking the presidential oath of office and oath of allegiance, Nana Akufo Addo said : “I Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, having been elected to the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana do (in the name of the Almighty God swear) (solemnly affirm) that I will be faithful and true to the Republic of Ghana; that I will at all times preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana; and that I dedicate myself to the service and well-being of the people of the Republic of Ghana and to do right to all manner of persons.
“I further (solemnly swear) (solemnly affirm) that should I at any time break this oath of office I shall submit myself to the laws of the Republic of Ghana and suffer the penalty for it. (So help me God).”

Chief stripped naked, beaten in Obuoho chaos at Eastern Region

The Kibi Divisional Police Command has launched investigations into a bloody clash which ensued between residents of Akyem Obuoho near Anum Apapam in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region and some gunmen claiming to be members of the Okyenhene’s Environmental taskforce.
The clashes led to sporadic gunshots which injured seven persons including one Ebenezer Narh, who has been hospitalized.
Two vehicles, a Toyota Highlander and a taxi used by the taskforce were set ablaze .
The Chief of Akyem Aworase  who is currently receiving treatment was beaten to pulp and stripped half  naked during the melee which occurred during the Christmas festivities .
There are claims the  chief mobilized the eight men, believed to be members of the taskforce,  to raid a mining site at New Obuoho near Anum Apapam.
According to sources, the gunmen began firing warning shots into the bush after noticing that the miners had fled before their arrival.

Ciara drops $15 million defamation lawsuit against her ex

Ciara's baby daddy Future can rest easier today now that she's dropped her $15 million defamation lawsuit against him.
TMZ is reporting that on Friday, Jan. 6, Mrs. Russell Wilson filed legal docs in Georgia to end her case. The documents say the case has been dismissed "with prejudice," which means she can't refile it.
The website says that Ciara wasn't paid off to end the case, and it also claims that Ciara and Future have likely reached an agreement on custody of 2-year-old baby Future.
The case was initially filed in February after Future did a radio interview, accusing Ciara of being a bad mom. He also used his social media to blast her and her then-boyfriend, now-husband Russell Wilson. Ciara also once said she feared Future would kill Russell. 
In court documents, she highlighted multiple times her ex bashed her and Russell in interviews and on social media.

Rawlings patches up with Accra Mayor after public snub

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has extended an olive branch to the Accra Mayor two days after he humiliated him in public.
Observing the dissolution of Ghana's sixth Parliament on January 6 midnight, the former leader walked to Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye to reconcile with him.

On Thurday, a section of the public had accused the former President of not handling the situation well, and thus embarrassing the Mayor.

Others said the Mayor called the action upon himself for breaking known diplomatic protocol by walking on the side of a VIP or attempting to engage him in a conversation while he moved on a red carpet.
In what appeared to be an apology to the former President, Mr. Vandepuije was seen giving some explanations to Mr Rawlings, after which the two were seen shaking hands and subsequently parting company.

Whoopi Goldberg, North Carolina commissioner in online feud

Comedian and talk-show host Whoopi Goldberg is being targeted by a North Carolina county commissioner over her comments about President-elect Donald Trump.
Local media reports New Hanover County Commission Chairman Woody White used Facebook to criticize Cape Fear Community College for hosting Goldberg's concert June 23. White asked if taxpayers were footing the bill and if the school was going to bring conservative performers to the campus.

White also criticized the school for "providing a venue for someone who just a few weeks ago was moving to Canada in protest to Trumps election? Terrible."

Goldberg responded on Twitter that she never said she would leave if Trump was elected.

Gambia's first lady breaks silence, expresses love and support for President Yahya Jammeh

Gambia’s First lady, Zineb Jammeh, has expressed firm love and support and love for her husband, President Jammeh.  In an interview with the Daily Observer, the first lady described President Yahya Jammeh as a very devoted leader who is able to ensure peace and stability in a country.
"It is never perfect, but it is very important to acknowledge the positive. It is important to say what is negative but never forget to acknowledge what is positive as well," she stated.
Zineb Jammeh said this while on her traditional visit to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in the capital of Gambia, Banjul to meet the new born babies of 2017 to present them with her gifts for her foundation Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF).

Ghana: Nana Akufo-Addo to be sworn in as president Today

Nana Akufo-Addo is to be sworn in as Ghana's new president after beating incumbent leader John Mahama in last month's election.
Some 11 African heads of state and more than 6,000 people are expected in the ceremony in the capital, Accra, where security will be tight.
Mr Akufo-Addo, a 72-year-old former human rights lawyer, promised free high school education and more factories.
But critics have questioned the viability of his ambitions.
Mr Akufo-Addo, from the New Patriotic Party, was elected on his third attempt to reach the post, after a campaign dominated by the country's faltering economy.
Mr Mahama and former leaders John Rawlings and John Kufuor are expected to attend the ceremony in the capital's Independence Square.

Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye has been sworn in as Speaker of the Seventh Parliament under the Fourth Republic.
He was unanimously elected after the Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu presented his candidature to the House.
He was sworn into office by the chief justice Theodora Georgina Wood during the wee hours of Saturday, January 07, 2017.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Oquaye described his return to the House as “home coming” and called on the experienced ones to assist the new MPs. He promised “to be fair to all” to succeed in office.
