Official: Nigeria mistakenly bombs camp, kills more than 100

A Nigerian air force fighter jet on a mission against Boko Haram extremists mistakenly bombed a refugee camp on Tuesday, killing more than 100 refugees and aid workers, a Borno state official said.
The state government official, who was helping to coordinate the evacuation of wounded from the remote area by helicopters, spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.
Military commander Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor confirmed the accidental bombardment in northeast Rann, near the border with Cameroon, saying "some" civilians were killed.
It was believed to be the first time Nigeria's military has admitted to making such a mistake.
The International Committee for the Red Cross said six staff members and volunteers with the Nigerian Red Cross were among the dead and 13 were wounded. "They were part of a team that had brought in desperately needed food for over 25,000 displaced persons," spokesman Jason St…

Video: South Africa pastor 'makes people drink engine cleaning fluid'

A prophet who gives his congregants engine cleaning fluid to heal them, says the liquid tastes like honey.
Prophet Theo Bongani Maseko of the Breath of Christ Ministries in Daveyton said the chemical attacks viruses in a person’s body and detects demons.


Maseko said his methods posed no health danger and admitted to drinking the fluid himself.

“It tastes like honey. I drank it twice,” he said.

The prophet claims that none of his congregants have ever been admitted to hospital following a healing session.

“They were all healed, they came with a testimony. Five people have been healed," said Maseko, who claimed to have received his calling before he was born.

Maseko joins the ever growing list of controversial pastors who have in recent times performed dubious methods during church services.

Other pastors have made congregants eat grass, rodents and snakes, drink petrol and sprayed them with Doom insect killer.

Maseko had nothing but praise for his fellow controversial clergymen.

AFCON 2017: Ayew gives Ghana win over Uganda: Ghana 1- 0 Uganda

Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game to give Ghana a 1-0 victory over Uganda in their opening Group D match at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The West Ham winger slotted in a penalty on 32 minutes after captain Asamoah Gyan had been pulled back.
Ghana also threatened through two Gyan headers, while Ayew and Christian Atsu tested Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango.
Uganda came closest when Faruku Miya hit the outside of a post but could not to force their way back into the game.
It was a disappointing return for Uganda, who are playing at their first Nations Cup since 1978 when they lost in the final to then hosts Ghana. 
The Cranes created few opportunities of note and struggled to get behind the Black Stars, who appeared happy to defend their lead and take the sting from the match.

Public nominations for the 2017 Ghana DJ Awards, which is the 5th edition, is open to all hard working disc jockeys ‘DJs’ and the general public from Tuesday, January 10 till January 30.

Steve Harvey apologizes for comments about Asian men

Steve Harvey has apologized for an offensive joke he made about Asian men last week.
“Wanted to share this today,” Harvey tweeted on Tuesday, along with a screenshot of the Notes app where he had written a short apology: “I offer my humblest apology for offending anyone, particularly those in the Asian community, last week. It was not my intention and the humor was not meant with any malice or disrespect whatsoever.”

Watch: Istanbul nightclub attacker who killed 39 people captured in police raid

The gunman suspected of killing 39 people during a New Year’s attack on an Istanbul nightclub has been caught in a police operation, Turkish media reports on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the swanky Reina nightclub to celebrate the New Year when the gunman shot a police officer and a civilian outside the club, then stormed the premises. Most of the dead in the attack were foreign nationals, from the Middle East.
According to Turkish media, the suspect identified as Abdulkadir Masharipov, an Uzbekistan national was captured in a special operations police raid on a house in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district, private NTV television reported, adding that he had been staying in the house belonging to a friend from Kyrgyzstan.

Kenyan women urged to withhold sex in vote drive

A Kenyan MP has asked women to withhold sex from their husbands until they register as voters for the 8 August elections. 
Mishi Mboko, the women's representative for the coastal city of Mombasa, says it was the best strategy to shore up opposition votes. 
"Women, this is the strategy you should adopt. It is the best. Deny them sex until they show you their voter's card," she said.
The registrations ends on 17 February. 
Ms Mboko said sex was a powerful weapon and would encourage reluctant men to rush to register as voters in the exercise that began on Monday.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to visit Ghana

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of the Kingdom of Morocco, will from Wednesday, January 18, 2017, begin an official visit to Ghana.
The visit is aimed at deepening the existing, cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco, as well present an opportunity to define new areas of cooperation that would serve the mutual interests of the two countries.
On Friday, January 20, President Akufo-Addo will hold bilateral talks with King Mohammed VI, before hosting him to an official lunch at the Presidency.
King Mohammed VI will thereafter depart for Morocco.

For someone so intimately familiar with Twitter, Donald Trump made a major faux pas on Monday night when instead of tagging his daughter, @IvankaTrump, in a post, he tagged @Ivanka, an English woman whose mentions are about to get very interesting.
In his first message of the night, Trump, who hates CNN so much he watches it every day and knows what programs the network is airing, tweeted that CNN was doing a "special report on my daughter, Ivanka. Considering it is CNN, can't imagine it will be great!" He followed it with a modified retweet from a Twitter user named @drgoodspine, which tagged Trump and his non-daughter, @Ivanka.

A Kenyan man is currently nursing multiple injuries after he was caught sleeping with his friend’s wife. The man identified as Chuor Nyar Alego from Kisumu, was on Saturday caught in the act after refusing to go on a drink date with his friend saying that he had a motor bike accident.
His friend went to the bar and was informed by a neighbor that an unknown man had just entered his house.

The angry friend took some of his other friends with him home to find Alego in his bedroom busy with his wife. An unlucky Chuor was pounced on and inflicted with head and nose injuries.

Alleged 9/11 mastermind's letter reaches White House

A 2014 letter addressed to Barack Obama from the man accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks has arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., a White House source said Monday.
There was no immediate word on whether the president had read the letter and what, if any, reaction he had to it.

The quack abortion doctor, known as David, has been operating at the facility for several years.
Several young ladies in Suhum and its environs have been patronizing the unprofessional services of the quack abortion doctor due to several reasons including low fee charge, endangering their lives.
Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah, who has been investigating the operations of the “abortion Doctor” reports that, several young ladies between the ages of 14 and 30 mostly visit the facility to access the fake doctor’s services.

Alibaba cracks down on $1.7 trillion fake goods market

Shopping might be easier thanks to the internet, but so is getting duped by counterfeiters. 
Chinese online shopping giant Alibaba announced Monday that it has formed a coalition that will leverage the power of big data to crack down on purveyors of fake goods, whose value in 2015 exceeded $1.7 trillion, according to the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition.
U.S. companies suffer most at the hand of brand pirates, with one in five knock-offs infringing on American products, and 63% of counterfeit goods come from China, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The mission of the Alibaba Big Data Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance, whose 20 members include luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Swarovski, is to pool information, data and expertise in intellectual property authentication with the ultimate goal of "helping block, screen and take down infringing listings," according to a statement from Alibaba.
