A Dutch retailer has been forced to apologise after it unwittingly sold a colour-by-numbers book featuring Adolf Hitler.

Kruidvat, the Dutch drugstore chain stocking it, said they "deeply regretted the incident" and immediately withdrew the product.
The book was produced in India and it is remains unclear why Hitler was included.
"My suspicion is that the man who created the colouring book got a book of famous people out of the closet and selected a pair, which unfortunately included Adolf Hitler. Maybe he did not recognize him," a spokesperson for the Belgian publisher Trifora told local media
The publisher explained the book, Kleuren op Code, included significant historical figures such as Nelson Mandela, Albert Einstein and Abraham Lincoln.

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte comes under fire for defending adultery

The speaker of the Philippines House of Representatives, Pantaleon Alvarez is an old friend and powerful ally of president Rodrigo Duterte so it comes as no surprise when the commander in chief sprang to the defence of his pal who was accused of adultery.

The Philippines public has however been enraged at the manner in which the president went about this business, he practically admitted to being an adulterer himself while defending the practice.  Describing it as a 'non-issue', the President said in a speech:

'This is a world of hypocrisy. Who among you here does not have a mistress?' But the comments drew sharp rebukes in the conservative and mainly Catholic nation where divorce is publicly frowned upon. Senator Risa Hontiveros said: 'All of it is sexist and misogynistic to explain improper behaviour simply by virtue of being male.

'It sends a message that undermines the many struggles and gains so far for women's rights and gender equality.'…

15% transport fares increment takes effect today

The 15 percent increment in Transport fares will take effect today, Thursday April 6, 2017, across the country.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) had earlier justified the 15% transport fares increment saying fuel prices and prices of the spare parts have gone up since the last review of transport fares last year.
According to the GPRTU, the increment is long overdue and should have been done two months ago.
The increment also comes at a time when government has abolished duty on the importation of spare parts and reduced the Special petroleum tax rate from 17.5 percent to 15 percent.
Issah Kalifa, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) told Starr News fares have not been increased since February 2016.

The Gambia to hold first election after Yahya Jammeh

The Gambia will hold its first election on Thursday since the downfall of longtime leader Yahya Jammeh.
Expectations are high that new lawmakers will overhaul the national assembly once derided as a mere rubberstamp by many in the country.
Gambians have long complained that under Jammeh, who ruled for 22 years, laws were often made by executive decree and buttressed by legislation much later on, if at all.
Campaigning ended on Tuesday for the 238 registered candidates representing nine different political parties who are vying for the 53 seats up for election.
Five seats are to be appointed by President Adama Barrow, totalling 58 spots in the small west African nation's parliament.
Kemo Bojang, a first-time voter speaking to Al Jazeera by phone, said there is a lot of excitement surrounding this year's election.
"This is a breakthrough for us, voting for someone who will actually represent us," Bojang, 20, who resides in the western town of Bakau, said.
He added h…

Spain has just seized $740 million worth of property from Syrian president's uncle

On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, Spain's highest court seized a huge real estate portfolio belonging to Rifaat Al Assad, the uncle of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. Spanish authorities said they are investigating the elder Assad for money laundering, thus seized 503 properties belonging to him and his relatives worth €691 million ($740 million).

He was exiled in 1984 for attempting to seize power while Hafez recovered from heart problems. He has mostly lived in exile in Europe since then.

The investigation in Spain includes 16 individuals associated with Assad, including two wives, six of his children and one Spanish citizen who allegedly administered Assad's assets in the country. Officials in Spain say Assad may have taken as much as $300 million from Syrian state coffers for personal gain.

Rifaat Al Assad has also lived in France, where authoritie…

Syria chemical 'attack': Trump condemns 'affront to humanity'

US President Donald Trump has condemned the killing of dozens of civilians in northern Syria in an apparent chemical weapons attack by Syria's air force.
It was an "affront to humanity", he said, adding: "When you kill innocent children, innocent babies, little babies... that crosses... many lines."
He did not mention Russia, Syria's ally, which says chemical weapons in rebel hands may have been released.
But America's envoy to the UN accused Russia of covering up for Damascus.
"Time and time again Russia uses the same false narrative to deflect attention from their ally in Damascus," Nikki Haley said during a heated UN Security Council debate in New York.
Hinting at possible unilateral action by the US, she added: "When the United Nations consistently fails in its duty to act collectively, there are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action."
The government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denies…
