Check out the Ethiopian women who are flogged in order to show their love

A brutal tradition in which women from the Hamar tribe in Ethiopia get whipped to demonstrate their love for their men has been spotlighted by photographer Jeremy Hunter. The women of this tribe engage in a tribal ceremony during which they are flogged to show the sacrifices they make for their men.
The tradition is known as Ukuli Bula and is done as part of a Rite of Passage ceremony for boys.

To reach manhood, Hamar boys must undergo two rituals: circumcision and a leap over the bulls. This determines whether the young Hamar male is ready to make the social jump from youth to adulthood. During this ceremony, their female family members declare their love for the young men and to prove the sacrifice they are willing to endure, they beg men to whip them.

After the ceremony held in the Omo River Valley, the boy becomes a man and is now allowed to marry.

Hunter shared a series of photographs documenting the ceremony and revealed that after the whipping, tradition allows those…

2 dead in heavy gunfire at Taifa Burkina; 23 arrested

At least two people have been confirmed dead in a shooting incident at Taifa Burkina in Accra.
According to StarrFMonline.com sources, one person was shot in the exchange of gunfire whilst the other was reportedly butchered by a mob.
Twenty-three people have been arrested already in connection with the incident which was started by a brawl over a woman according to the police.
Speaking in an interview Thursday the Madina District Police Crime Officer Superintendent Oppong,  disclosed that: “Two people were arguing over a lady and then one used the bottle to hit the other. The one who was hit got infuriated. Because the other had his accomplices there, he couldn’t fight them.
“He went to his house, brought a pump action gun and started a confrontation with one of those who attacked him. In the process a mob charged on him, he gave a warning shot, went to a friend’s house where he was hiding. The mob decided to charge on the house and he fired through the trap door.”

Egypt 'uncovers burial chamber of pharaoh's daughter'

The 3,700-year-old burial chamber of a pharaoh's daughter is believed to have been found near the remains of a recently discovered pyramid in Egypt.
The ministry of antiquities said the chamber at the Dahshur royal necropolis, south of Cairo, contained a wooden box engraved with hieroglyphs.
Inside the box were four canopic jars filled with the organs of the deceased, likely a daughter of King Emnikamaw.
The ruler's pyramid is about 600m (1,970ft) from the chamber.
Last month, archaeologists investigating the remains of the structure found a relief with 10 lines of hieroglyphs bearing Emnikamaw's name.
They also uncovered the remnants of an anthropoid sarcophagus.
Dahshur is where King Sneferu of the 4th Dynasty built ancient Egypt's first true smooth-sided pyramid, the 104m-high (341ft) Red Pyramid, about 4,600 years ago.
He also constructed an earlier version, the 105m-high Bent Pyramid, whose slopes change angle from 54 degrees to 43 degrees about halfway up.

Steve Harvey’s Shocking Memo to Talk Show Staff Surfaces: ‘Do Not Approach Me’

Steve Harvey is moving his daytime talk show to Los Angeles this fall, but his new staff may not want to expect a sunny welcome from the host — at least, if his past communication is any indication of his attitude toward his staffers.
A memo that was sent from Harvey to his staff surfaced earlier today on Robert Feder’s Chicago media blog telling employees not to approach him. “Do not come to my dressing room unless invited….Do not approach me while I’m in the makeup chair unless I ask to speak with you directly,” read the memo. “Do not take offense to the new way of doing business. It is for the good of my personal life and enjoyment.”
Sources tell Variety the memo was sent to his staff in Chicago before the start of the fifth season of his former daytime talk show, “Steve Harvey,” which ran for five seasons in national syndication. Starting this fall, the revamped show will tape in Los Angeles at Harvey’s request, with a new crew. Sources say the memo may have been leaked …

Jay Z's fortune jumped by 30% in 2016 but Diddy is still top of rap's rich list

Jay Z's fortune jumped 30% last year to give him an estimated net worth of $810m (£626m), according to Forbes.
But it wasn't enough to dethrone Sean "Diddy" Combs from the top of the magazine's annual list of the world's richest hip-hop artists.
Diddy retained his number one spot with an estimated net worth of $820m (£633m).
Forbes said that was helped by his deals with Diageo for Ciroc vodka and his Sean John clothing line.

But rapper and producer Jay Z moved into second place largely because of the $200m (£155m) investment in his Tidal music streaming service from US mobile phone operator and communications company Sprint in January.
He also has a champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, and owns Roc Nation.
Last year Diddy was on $750m (£579m) while Jay Z was worth $610m (£471m).

Forbes produced the list by looking at past earnings and financial documents, valuing current holdings, and talking to analysts, lawyers, managers and other industry experts.

Ghana's Freemasonry fraternity blames Nollywood for portraying them as evil to the World

Nana Osae Nyangpong, the Grand Master of Ghana's Freemasonry Grand lodge, a fraternity of brotherhood has angrily lashed out at the Nigerian Movie Industry for giving the organization a bad reputation across the World.

According to Nana in an interview with Kofi Adomsh of Adom TV, he said Nollywood is responsible for making the general public perceive the organization as a secret society after portraying them as evil in Movies.
'Nollywood has affected us a great deal and has created a public disaffection for us because of the kind if stories they do to portray what we do and don’t do as an association. The kind of stories told by Nollywood are just shocking and don’t represent what we are, he angrily lamented.
The grandmaster also discredits the bad impression created in some Nollywood films that grandmasters have spiritual powers and its members are made to perform human sacrifices and all other evil activities to become wealthy.

Here's FBI Director James Comey's farewell letter after Donald Trump sacked him

Former FBI Director James Comey, who was fired Tuesday by President Donald Trump sent a letter to selected FBI staff, friends and agents.
Below is the text of that letter; To all:

I have long believed that a President can fire an FBI Director for any reason, or for no reason at all. I'm not going to spend time on the decision or the way it was executed. I hope you won't either. It is done, and I will be fine, although I will miss you and the mission deeply. I have said to you before that, in times of turbulence, the American people should see the FBI as a rock of competence, honesty, and independence.
What makes leaving the FBI hard is the nature and quality of its people, who together make it that rock for America. It is very hard to leave a group of people who are committed only to doing the right thing.
My hope is that you will continue to live our values and the mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. If you do that, you too wil…

Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe 'not asleep just resting his eyes'

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe is not asleep when he closes his eyes for long periods during meetings but is resting his eyes, his spokesman says.
"The president cannot suffer bright lights," George Charamba was quoted as saying by the state-run Herald newspaper.

Mr Mugabe, 93, has been seen apparently sleeping at several events, leading to speculation about his fitness.

He intends to stand in presidential elections next year.

The president is currently receiving specialised medical treatment for his eyes in Singapore.

Mr Mugabe most recently appeared to fall asleep during a discussion panel about "fragile states" at a World Economic Forum meeting in South Africa earlier this month.

There he stated that Zimbabwe was 'one of the most developed countries in Africa'

"I feel like a failure when there is this reading that the president is sleeping in conferences - no," Mr Charamba said.

He then compared Mr Mugabe to the anti-apartheid icon Nelson M…

Annie~Joy writes: Work Yourself Out. #BeInspired!!

If you don't start something you will never know what you can do and what you cannot do. You were privileged to get a good man of God telling you how the future ahead of you will be like but if you do not work hard and avail yourself it cannot come to pass.

One good Example is Sampson; words were said concerning his life and they were how great he will be. He grew up and got to know about it but instead of him working himself out on it, he diverted from his direction and the symbol of greatness disappeared from his life. It can happen to anyone, the words of greatness may be proclaimed but it is up to you to work yourself out.
In every aspect of your life, you need to show some concern and be willing to work all out. Just as Zaccheus wanted to see JESUS CHRIST, he did not only make up his mind, he put on efforts and did not mind his height and the crowd. He just applied his knowledge by climbing the tree and calling the name of JESUS CHRIST and he was privileged. Rel…

Video: US education chief booed at historically black college

Graduating seniors at Bethune-Cookman University turned their backs in protest against US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos at the start of her commencement speech at the historically black institution.
Some graduating students shouted "Liar!" and "Just go," as she powered through her speech on Wednesday at the Florida university.
"Let's choose to hear one another out," DeVos said, reading her prepared text in a measured tone despite continuing waves of boos, catcalls and scattered applause.
As the crowd kept trying to shout her down, university president Edison Jackson briefly took over the microphone to sternly lecture the class of 2017.
"If this behaviour continues, your degrees will be mailed to you. Choose which way you want to go," Jackson warned.
DeVos alienated many African-Americans in February when she described historically black colleges as "real pioneers when it comes to school choice".
After a storm of criticism, she…

Facebook begins crack down on spam websites

On Wednesday, Facebook announced plans to start cracking down on links to "low-quality" web pages as part of the company's plan to show people "fewer misleading posts, and more informative posts." Facebook is starting with the ratio of ads to actual content; a page with too many ads and not enough original text or images is considered spam.
If a site's ads are "disruptive, shocking, or malicious," Facebook will make sure fewer people can see and click on it. The company continues to explain that the links aren't being banned; if you post one it will still appear on your wall but their news feed ranking will drop and they will be seen by far fewer people if anyone at all.

The changes will happen over the next few months, and Facebook says it could mean a boost in traffic for publishers that produce quality content.

Vodafone CEO Engages Customers On Twitter

Chief Executive of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba, on Wednesday, demonstrated great leadership and commitment when she took to the company’s Twitter handle to respond to queries and questions from its numerous followers.

It was a rare opportunity for customers to have an up-close-and-personal interaction with the CEO and the queries came trickling in thick and fast. In a 2-hour session that brought Twitter to a standstill, the engagement under the hashtag - #AskYolanda – became the number 1 trending topic in Ghana between 1pm – 3pm that day.

She had her hands full as subscribers and followers piled on a whole range of questions including product challenges, customer service and network quality, her career experiences, 4G spectrum acquisition and the like. The session was not without its humorous aspect as some subscribers wanted freebies for the number of retweets they made as well as requests for lunch dates.

Yolanda has been very active in responding to customer queries on…
