Italian Embassy Congratulates Ghana On “First Oil” From Sankofa OCTP Field

The Embassy of Italy to Ghana has congratulated the Government of Ghana, the Italian Oil & Gas company, ENI, oil trading company, VITOL and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for the first oil extracted from the OCTP project well ahead of schedule.

Ghana took a major step towards the attainment of energy and power security when it signed an agreement for the development of the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) integrated oil and gas project under the previous John Dramani Mahama administration.

6.5-magnitude earthquake strikes central Philippines

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck the central Philippines.

Dozens of people have been reported injured, including at least 10 in a collapsed building in the town of Kanaga. The epicenter of the quake was located 2 miles from the small town of Masarayao and over 7 miles from the city of Ormoc City, which has a population of over 191,000. 

Carl Ikeme: Wolves goalkeeper diagnosed with acute leukaemia

Wolves and Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is to begin chemotherapy after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

The Championship club say Ikeme, 31, returned "abnormal blood tests" during pre-season testing and further checks confirmed the diagnosis.

Ikeme has been with Wolves for his entire career, making more than 200 appearances for Wanderers.

Thirty-three of those came last season, having previously been in the team that won the League One title in 2013-14.

Ariana Grande has taken her Dangerous Woman tour to South America, but she has kept the victims of the May 22 bombing outside Manchester Arena close to her heart. 

After her concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday night (July 5) Grande hit Instagram to pay respect to the youngest victim of the terror attack at her Manchester show that took the lives of 22 fans.

19 to now face trial for murder of Major Mahama

 The Accra Central District Court on Thursday discharged 13 persons said to have been involved in the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama.The 13 were part of the initial 32 accused persons.

The remaining 19 will now face trial on charges of murder and conspiracy to murder.

The 13 were discharged on Thursday following a request by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr George Amegah that the prosecution intends to use those them as witnesses in the case.

Friday, 7th July sees Wiyaala take the stage with MTV Europe Award winning Moroccan musician Ahmed Soultan at the Timitar Festival in Agadir, Morocco.

Malawi football stadium stampede kills eight

Eight people - including seven children - have died in a stampede ahead of a football match in Malawi, police say.

Dozens more were injured in the crush at Lilongwe's Bingu national stadium.

The stampede happened as thousands of people rushed for seats ahead of a friendly between top sides Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers.

Romelu Lukaku: Man Utd 'agree £75m fee with Everton for striker'

Manchester United have agreed a fee of around £75m with Everton for striker Romelu Lukaku, senior club sources have told the BBC.

The 24-year-old Belgium international scored 25 Premier League goals last season.

United, who have been chasing Lukaku for most of the summer, will not now be pursuing their interest in Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata.

Africa finally gets unique Internet Domain 25 years after World Wide Web launched

More than three decades after the first domain name was registered, and over 25 years after the World Wide Web launched, Africa finally has its own internet domain fully owned by Africa named ‘DotAfrica’, APA reports on Wednesday.

This milestone was announced in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the 29th ordinary session of the African Union Assembly. The objective of the launch was to mark the commencement of the DotAfrica operational phase by setting up a road show starting at the AU headquarters

US lifts 'Laptop ban' for passengers flying in from Dubai and Istanbul

Emirates and Turkish Airlines confirms that the U.S. ban on electronics devices larger than a smartphone in cabins has been lifted. Emirates in a statement said:
"We have been working hard in coordination with various aviation stakeholders and the local authorities to implement heightened security measures and protocols that meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's new security guidelines for all U.S. bound flights,"

The former MD of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST), Kingsley Kwame Awuah-Darko, has sued the MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for making “defamatory” comments against him.

Also, he sued Multimedia’s Asempa FM plus Kennedy Agyapong’s Oman FM for being the channels used for the said defamatory remarks.

North Korea missile: US says it will use military force 'if we must'

The US has said it will use its "considerable military forces" on North Korea "if we must", following Tuesday's long-range missile test.

US ambassador Nikki Haley said a new resolution would also be tabled against Pyongyang at the United Nations.

She described the test as a sharp military escalation and also threatened to use trade restrictions.

Alexandre Lacazette joins Arsenal for club record £46.5m from Lyon

Arsenal have completed the signing of France striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a club record £46.5m fee on a five-year deal.

The fee - up to £52.6m with add-ons - will surpass the £42.4m Arsenal paid Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.

"Arsenal are the club that plays the best football in England so I really wanted to come here," said Lacazette.
