Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese was adjudged Best Actress at the Newark International Film Festival 2017 in New Jersey, USA.
Her performance was extremely impressive in Sink or Swim movie which also won the Best Film at the event.

London police arrest woman after incident at Prince George's school

A woman has been arrested in London on suspicion of attempted burglary at a primary school attended by Prince George, the great-grandson of Queen Elizabeth, police said on Wednesday. 
The four-year-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton started last week at Thomas's Battersea, a private school in southwest London. The event was widely publicized in Britain and beyond.

Uganda's Makerere University investigates degree cheats

One of Africa's most prestigious universities is investigating how 300 students managed to get their degree results changed.
Uganda's Makerere University discovered that the students' marks had been tampered with in 2015. It is thought that some people responsible for managing the results system were behind the changes, Vice-Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe said.

South Africa ex-deputy minister pleads guilty to assault

South Africa's former deputy minister of higher education has pleaded guilty to assault during an appearance at a magistrates' court. 
Mduduzi Manana was accused of beating two women at a nightclub in Johannesburg last month.

Saudi Arabia 'detains' more preachers

Saudi Arabia has detained more preachers and scholars, activists said, two days after the reported arrest of more than 20 individuals, including prominent Saudi intellectuals. 
The reports come as Saudi state news agency SPA said authortities were uncovering "intelligence activities for the benefit of foreign parties" by an unamed group of people. It did not comment on the reported arrests.

Singapore has elected 63-year old Halimah Yacob as its first female president which also makes her the first head of state to come from the county's Malay community in almost five decades.

Halimah Yacob, a former speaker of parliament, did not face a vote for the largely ceremonial post after authorities said other candidates did not meet strict eligibility criteria.
