Ghanaians are Solely Responsible for the Success of the 4th Republic - President Akufo Addo

President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo says the people of Ghana are to be credited with the success of the Fourth Republic democratic dispensation Ghana has enjoyed the last 25 years.

Addressing attendees of a National Inter-Faith Thanksgiving Service held at the Independence Square, Accra, to commemorate the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the 4th Republic, President Akufo Addo said throughout the last twenty five years, Ghanaians have conducted themselves creditably even in the phase of trying political circumstances. This conduct of the Ghanaian citizenry the President observes, is what is ultimately responsible for the sustainance of the 1992 Constitution which came into force in Ghana on the 7th of January, 1993.

Attendance at the Service

The Inter-Faith Service was attended by First Lady, Rebecca Akufo Addo; Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife the Second Lady Samira Bawumia; the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye and his wife, and the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo. All living former Heads of State of the Republic were also in attendance. They are the first President of the Fourth Republic, Jerry John Rawlings; second President of the Fourth Republic, John Agyekum Kufour and the fourth President of the Fourth Republic, John Dramani Mahama. The Council of State, Ministers of State, and Service Commanders were also in attendance.

Departed Leaders

In his speech, President Akufo Addo acknowledged three departed former leaders who also served under the Fourth Republic. The three are the third President of the Fourth Republic, John Evans Atta Mills; the first Vice President of the Fourth Republic, Ekow Ackaah and the third Vice President of the Fourth Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. President Akufo Addo led the Service to observe a minute's silence for these leaders.

Clergy and Prayers offered

The Service kicked start with a call to worship by the Presiding Bishop of the Light House Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward Mills. The three living former presidents read the first, second and third scripture readings respectively with Most Reverend Dr. Daniel Yinkah Sago, the Primate of the Province of West Africa and Anglican Bishop of Kumasi delivering the sermon.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost offered prayers for the Executive Arm of Government; Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, President of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches interceded for the Legislative Arm and Apostle Samuel Tetteh Doku, President of the Council of Independent Churches prayed for the Judiciary.

The Muslim Session

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu delivered a sermon and also led Muslim prayers for the country.
