Photos: Badly burnt body of missing 20-year-old woman found in a cane field in South Africa. Investigators release identity of suspect

The badly burnt body of 20-year-old woman was found by a farmer in a secluded cane field last Saturday, in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa.

Siam Lee went missing last Thursday, January 4th, from her place of work on Margaret Maytom Drive in Durban North.

Her disappearance prompted a massive search involving police, private investigators and security companies.

Yesterday, Lee was positively identified by a relative, according to a source close to the investigation.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said police had launched an inquest into the grisly discovery.
“The body was found by a farmer who was driving past. That is when he noticed the body‚” he said.

Zwane appealed for anyone with information on the apparent murder to come forward.

In the seven days since her disappearance‚ social media has been awash with appeals for her safe return. It is understood that DNA testing will prove with certainty that the body is that of Lee.

Investigators released an identityof a man they believe could assist them in their inquiry into her vanishing.
“The man in the attached identikit allegedly left with Siam in a black Mercedes Benz Vito/ V-class with unknown GP registration numbers. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact me on 083 632 2849 or 031 560 8004. Our Crime Stop number can also be contacted on 08600 10 111,” said Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.
