Enhance Your Engagement with the Ghanaian Community - President Akufo Addo to Police Service

President Akufo Addo has charged the Ghana Police Service to find new and strategic ways of enhancing their engagement with the communities they serve as that guarantees a more sustainable way of fighting crime. 

In his address at a brief ceremony to officially inaugurate the newly built Tesano Divisional Headquarters, President Akufo said, "When the community and the Police work together, the country can be assured of its safety and security. The citizenry can then channel it's energies and resources into building a progressive and prosperous nation".

"I am confident that with the citizenry and Police joined together at the frontline of the fight against crime, we can help establish an orderly society governed by the rule of law," the President added.

Resourcing the Police

The President in his speech assured that his government has started a project to rehabilitate police stations throughout the country. The aim of this exercise is to standardize police infrastructure and to turn the Service into an honest, disciplined, efficient and robust force whose emphasis will be on proactive and preventative policing rather than reactive.

The New Police Building

The new Divisional Headquarters built by the side of the old Tesano Police Station was financed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Despite Group of Companies, Osei Kwame Despite. In a speech read on his behalf by Kwame Sefa Kayi, the CEO of the Ghanaian conglomerate said it took some 14 months to build the office complex which comprises of offices and wash rooms for the Divisional Commander, Divisional Crime Officer, DOVSSU Commander as well as station officers. There are orderly rooms for the divisional officers, DOVSSU general office, ten seat meeting room, kitchen with a dining area, an executive lobby, general lobby and counter-back area. Despite additionally called on the business community to join in the equipping of the police force.
