Regina Van-Helvert Launches ‘Jungle Justice’

Young Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur Regina Van-Helvert on Friday August 24 launched a campaign against Jungle Justice at Alisa Hotel, Accra. 

According to the media personality, who is also the founder of Van-Helvert foundation, Jungle Justice, which is referred to as Mob Justice is a form of public extrajudicial killings, where an ‘alleged criminal’ is humiliated, beaten and in some cases ‘summarily executed’, by a crowed or vigilant group, is a practice that should not be encouraged in the society.

Speaking at the event, Van-Helvert explained that, her foundation which tackles social issues is set to spearhead the campaign against Jungle Justice, which is a menace that everybody could be a victim of. The campaign is set to start with a hashtag on social media which is #stopjunglejustice.

The event was graced by ACP David Eklu who endosed his support for the project. He said “this should be termed as jungle injustice. This canker shouldn’t be the battle of only the police but for the society. The media should also create awareness of the dangers involved in the menace.

Also, the father of the late Captain Mahama, Captain Denise Mahama endorsed the project, he said “I will throw in my efforts for this projects”

The launch was honoured by two Members of Parliament, Mr Seth Acheampong and Mr Andrew Ankrah who also added their endorsement to the project.

Other personalities at the event which was hosted by news anchor Patrick Stephenson of Ghone Tv were the mother of Regina, actors and actresses and other media personalities.

The campaign was launched with a premier of the short movie dubbed ‘Jungle Justice’ which starred Yvonne Nelson, john Dumelo and striker of ‘Beast of no Nation’ fame.
