Photo of Dad Changing His Son’s Diaper On His Lap In Public Restroom Goes Viral

The world’s general attitude towards gender roles is slowly changing. But, while more dads are suiting up for diaper duty or to stay at home with their kids than ever before, it’s still painfully obvious that many of the spaces families frequent haven’t exactly caught up with modern parenting.

One Florida dad is now going viral after one of his kids snapped a picture of him squatting to change his baby son’s diaper when the restroom he was in had no changing table.

In the caption of the post, Donte Palmer lamented the fact that not being able to change his son’s diaper in public bathrooms is a regular problem for him.

“This is a serious post!!! What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist!!” Palmer captioned the post. “Clearly, we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him!!!! Let’s fix this problem!”

Palmer recalls that he, his wife, and their three sons were at a Texas Roadhouse when his one-year-old son Liam “started fussing,” because he needed a diaper change. Palmer’s wife was ordering with their other two boys so he decided to take the baby to the bathroom himself. As Palmer was in the ground changing Liam, his son Isaiah, whom Palmer calls the “diaper assistant” snapped the hilarious picture without telling his dad.

“People have commented that my wife is ‘lazy’ for not changing our baby’s diaper or that I could have changed him in the car but why should I?” Palmer said.

At the end of the day, Palmer wants the change so that fathers everywhere can be greeted with the presumption that they’re involved parents.

“Many fathers are present caretakers but either we don’t get recognition or get too much credit for doing basic tasks,” he tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Why should I have to lay my son across my legs? That’s not cool.”
