The village where childbirth is banned

One of the wonders of life is how there’s always something new to discover, so much we never knew existed, even in the age of the internet.

BBC News Africa  visited the village of Mamfe Dove in our neighbouring country Ghana. In the village, childbirth, as well as burying of the dead, is banned.

Yes, women are not allowed to give birth in the village.

What happens is that when a pregnant woman is in labor, she’s taken out of the village and allowed to return only after the child is born.

A pregnant woman spoke to the BBC, asking that the practice be abolished.
