#AFCON2019: Zimbabwe squad threaten to pull out from tournament over unpaid wages

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) and the players are reportedly  threatening to withdraw from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations ahead of their final group match.

According to the Local Media, ZIFA and the players were locked in talks on Thursday but no agreement was reached as the country's football FA was offering to pay $5,500 of the $12,500 the players are owed on Friday, but it was rejected amid the threat of a boycott of training until the full amounts were settled.

Both parties even threatened to quit the tournament ahead of Sunday's clash with Democratic Republic of Congo, which will be their final group match.

"We were called in and told of the developments about the possible withdrawal from the tournament and we told them (ZIFA officials) that we were ready to go home because we believe they haven't fulfilled our contracts," Zimbabwe's Herald newspaper quoted an unnamed player as saying.

A number of players are said to have also told officials they are ready to call it quits following the issues regarding their unpaid wages.
