Kojo Bonsu apologises to Otumfuor, Nananom

Mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu
The Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu has apologised to the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council over certain actions that may have incurred their displeasure.

Mr. Bonsu’s apology comes after the Traditional Council asked President Mahama to sack the Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) Chief Executive, accusing him of gross disrespect.

At a crunch meeting of the KTC, which was held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, the chiefs unanimously accused Mr. Bonsu of disrespecting them on countless occasions, stressing that they have had enough of his gross insubordination.

The necessary rituals, including the slaughtering of a sheep, were performed at the palace, to signify that the KTC will have nothing to do with Mr. Bonsu, if he continued to parade himself as the Kumasi mayor.

A statement by Mr. Bonsu Friday stated “I have taken notice of concerns raised by Nananom of the Kumasi Traditional Council over recent developments in the metropolis.

“I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure.”

The statement added “since assuming office as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, I have enjoyed tremendous support and cooperation from Nananom.

"Together, we have developed a healthy working relationship as stakeholders in the collective pursuit of the development, peace and progress of the Kumasi Metropolis.

"I shall therefore continue to cherish my relationship with Nananom."
