Simon Cowell Signs on for 3 More Seasons of America's Got Talent

Get ready for lots more tight T-shirts and snarky British putdowns: Simon Cowell will be back at the America’s Got Talent judges’ table for the next three seasons.

The former American Idol judge has signed a deal to return as a judge on NBC’s summer hit for three more years through 2019, the network announced Tuesday. Cowell originally created the Got Talent format in the UK, and is also an executive producer on AGT.

The deal ensures that the current AGT judging panel will remain intact next year, with Cowell’s fellow judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B already set to return. (Nick Cannon will return as AGT host as well.)

And it’s a winning combination: NBC touts this summer’s edition of AGT, with Cowell replacing departing judge Howard Stern, as the show’s most-watched season in five years.

“It was terrific to see Simon in his judge’s chair this past season, bringing his unique expertise and enthusiasm to the show, night after night,” NBC reality president Paul Telegdy said in a statement. “His brilliance has made AGT the industry leader that it is today, and his ability to evaluate and spot talent is unmatched, so we couldn’t be happier to have him seated at the judge’s table for the next three years.”

Season 12 of America’s Got Talent will premiere on NBC next summer.
