“Micro-entrepreneurs In Ghana Cannot Thrive Without Smartphones” – Says Vodafone Report

A new report published by Vodafone Group reveals that smartphones are increasing opportunities in Ghana; and that 7 out of 10 micro-entrepreneurs are likely to face difficulties continuing their business without a smartphone.

Authored by independent experts, “Towards a more equal world: the mobile internet revolution” looks at how the shift to smartphones and data services in emerging markets represent a turning point. The specific opportunities of mobile internet access for disadvantaged groups are identified and policy steps governments can take to address inequalities are recommended.

Drawing on three in-depth studies in three developing countries – Ghana, Kenya and India - the report examines different facets of the challenge.

Ghana’s Tourism ambassador Abeiku Aggrey Santana was at the airport on Saturday night to see off the delegation made up of a team of foreign diplomats led by the Dean of the diplomatic corps of Ghana Her Excellency the Zimbabwean Ambassador to Ghana Pavelyn Tendai Musaka to South Africa to participate in the SADC conference.

Girl, 5, needs $10,000 for eye surgery

Family of a five-year-old girl Ohemaa Abena Asantewaa in Kumasi in the Ashanti region is seeking financial support from corporate institutions and philanthropists across the country to enable their daughter undergo eye surgery in Texas, the United States of America (USA).
Asantewaa needs at least 10,000 dollars to enable her undergo treatment.
According to Doctors, a tumor in Asantewaa’s eye is worsening and is likely to affect her brain, if not treated immediately.
The family is appealing to the public to help them raise the said amount to enable them fly Asantewaa to the US for treatment.
 Parents of Asantewaa who are local farmers say their income is not enough to sponsor her medical bills.
Asantewaa has been battling with the eye tumor for the past five years with several surgeries at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi but to no avail.

Ghana’s favourite Youth Brand, Live 91.9 FM has earned a nomination at the City People Entertainment Awards.

'Your Music Play Station' was nominated in the ‘Radio Station With Best Showbiz Content’ category.

The station recently celebrated its one year anniversary, and was the official Media Partner for the 2016 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.

The EIB Network owned station parades the best of Presenters and DJS including Jay Foley, Jeremie, Antoine Mensah, Vanessa Gyan, Sammy Forson, Masta Jay, Berla Mundi, and Regina Krave.

Mahama nominates Bombande as dep. Foreign Affairs Min.

A Conflict resolution and peace-building consultant, Emmanuel Bombande has been nominated deputy foreign affairs minister by President John Mahama, a statement from the Communication Ministry announced.

Bombande, who is currently the Special Adviser to the UN General Secretary's Special Representative to West Africa, was director of the West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP).

If approved by parliament, he will work under foreign affairs minister Hanna Tetteh.

The statement also announced the nomination of former District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Krobo, Joseph Angmor Tetteh and the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta, Joseph Oti Bless as Deputy Minsters for the Eastern Region and Local Government and Rural Development respectively.

Kwame Adinkra kicks off Abusua FM’s soft programming with #Abusuankomo

Celebrated radio host Kwame Adinkra Monday kicked off Abusua 96.5 FM’s soft programming with #Abusuankomo – the new station’s morning show.

Officials of the EIB Network, owners of Abusua FM joined Adinkra for a brief prayer session before officially going live.

In his introductory remarks, Adinkra spoke about the journey back to Kumasi radio, where he still commands a huge following.

Abusua FM is operating on the frequency 96.5 in the Ashanti Region, and started test transmission on June 1, ahead of today’s soft roll-out.

Adinkra and a team of experienced heads are being recruited to lead EIB’s official entry into the mass market in the Ashanti Region. EIB also operates Ultimate 106.9 FM in Kumasi.

EIB is also set to roll out two more radio stations; Super FM (Tamale) and Cool FM (Cape Coast) in addition to existing properties.
