2016 elections will go into a run-off – Nduom

The 2016 Presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has predicted that the 2016 presidential elections will head into a second round unlike 2012.

President Mahama won the 2012 elections in a one-touch victory, but Dr. Nduom says he is convinced that his party would become a major force in this year’s elections which will go into a run-off.

“Absolutely, [the elections] will go into a second round,” Dr. Nduom told host of Starr Chat Bola Ray Wednesday adding, "I am sure that if we get our things right there will be three pots and we will figure out at the end which three would move up.”

“The NDC doesn’t have the good will to win...the NPP is also not as strongly organized to be able to say we are going to go and do our one shot deal, we know we have to grow, we know we have to work so we are working so we can compete,” Dr. Nduom added.

Dr. Nduom also added that he is confident that with hard work, he can lead the PPP to wrestle power fro…

I don’t employ on partisan lines - Nduom

Business mogul Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has debunked claims it is a must for employees of his chain of companies to be card bearing members of his Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

Dr. Nduom, whose 60 companies boast of “5000 direct employees”, noted he employs based on merit and will always want professionalism to supersede partisan politics when it comes to job placements.
“Nobody comes to work and they are asked which party do you support,” Dr Nduom, who is the flagbearer of the PPP told host of Starr Chat, Bola Ray on Wednesday. “It can’t be because we want the best.”

However, the chairman of Groupe Nduom said his workers are free to buy into the ideologies of his party going into the 2016 elections.

“When that person comes in and enjoys what we have and shares in our philosophy then it is up to them,” Dr Nduom stated.

Nonetheless, the former minister under the Kufuor administer served notice that “it’s not a good habit for somebody to stand up in my company to say I support JDM.”

EC extends re-registration of deleted NHIS registrants

The Electoral Commission (EC) has offered a second opportunity to deleted NHIS registrants, to get back onto the voters' register ahead of the December polls.

After an IPAC meeting Wednesday, the EC stated that “we are giving the deleted NHIS registrants a second opportunity from 5th to 12th August 2016 to re-register. So if you were unable to do earlier you have a second opportunity to get yourself back onto the voters’ registe…

NDC critics don’t understand English – Okudzeto

The former president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mr. Sam Okudzeto, has slammed critics in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) saying his comment that President John Mahama would be planning his own funeral if he grants pardon to the Montie three has been clearly misunderstood.

Mr. Okudzeto Monday warned the president against pardoning the jailed Montie three, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase alias ‘Mugabe’ saying President Mahama’s compliance to the pardon calls will mark his own funeral.

The NDC in a statement described the comments by Mr. Okudzeto, as baseless and a threat on the life of President John Mahama.

The statement signed by the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah Tuesday stated that “…the NDC considers this statement from Mr. Okudzeto not only as a threat to President Mahama’s life but also, a danger to the very foundation of the country’s Constitution, the people, and democracy, especially when such baseless and dange…

President chooses wife as running mate

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has named his wife as his running mate and candidate for vice-president as he seeks re-election for a third term.

First Lady Rosario Murillo already has a prominent role as the chief government spokeswoman and is widely seen as sharing power with her husband.

She appears on Nicaraguan television almost every day.

Critics accuse the first couple of running Nicaragua - which has elections in November - like a personal fiefdom.

While President Ortega rarely speaks to the media, his wife is regularly seen on TV discussing policy and promoting her own brand of New Age spirituality.

Mother of the president's seven children, she is fluent in English and French in addition to being a renowned poet.

She also has a reputation for wearing colourfully extravagant outfits and jewellery more commonly seen in the hippy 1960s.

Correspondents say many Nicaraguans see Ms Murillo as wielding the most power in her country because of her higher public profile.

French President Francois Hollande joined the chorus of criticism on Tuesday, saying that Mr Trump made people "feel nauseous".

He warned that a Trump presidential election victory could herald a very strong turn to the right around the world.
