Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has, on behalf of President John Mahama, presented to the Council of State petitions received in respect of the incarceration of three persons for contempt of court.

The petitions were received from lawyers of the jailed Montie Presenter, Salifu Maase, and his two guests, Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson who have been jailed for four months by the Supreme Court, and a Civil Society Group, Research & Advocacy Platform.

Presenting the petitions to the chairperson of the Council, Madam Cecilia Johnson, Mr. Debrah said the President is looking forward to the advice of the Council.

The chairperson announced that the petitions will be submitted to the Legal Committee of the Council for initial review before the Council as a whole meets to consider the issues.

The trio were jailed for scandalising the court.

Teenage Ghanaian swimmer Kaya Forson recorded her personal best time despite finishing last in Heat One of the women's freestyle 200 metres race at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

The 14-year-old recorded a time of 2:16.02 to finish behind Matelita Buadromo from Fiji and Shivani Shivani from India.

Buadramo won the heat in a time of 2:05.49 while Shivani placed second in a time record of 2:09.30. However, none of the three swimmers progressed to the semi-final stage of the competition.

Ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has indicated that he will investigate the operations of the country’s Electoral Commission if there is the need to uncover any wrongdoing there.

According to Anas, his kind of journalism puts the public interest above everything else hence his resolve focus on the EC.

The body of a 13-year-old ice cream seller who went missing last Monday during the Emancipation Day celebration has been found at the Assin Manso township in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The girl whose name was given as Kuukuwa Ajara Mensah was found dead with her private parts, breast and hands, cut off by her attackers.

Media announcements and further search through the community since her disappearance yielded little efforts.

The body has since been picked by the police for further investigation.

Brother of the deceased told Starr News “My sister usually sells ice cream anytime school is on vacation so she raises money to add to what she will be given for school and this is the result of her efforts, she gets killed. I pray the police find the culprits and bring them to book”.

Even though it is not certain that President John Mahama and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be in power after the general elections slated for December 7, 2016, the Office of the President has started placing orders for a presidential diary for the year 2017.
A contract for the printing job has already been awarded to JIT Services Limited, a company owned by the failed National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for the Akan Constituency in the Volta Region, Godwin Quilliams Agbenyadzi.

It was the same company that was contracted to print the 2016 edition of the presidential diary which was said to have eaten into state funds by a gargantuan $10 million.
The 2017 diary is expected to be a ‘Special Edition’ as stated by the company because according to it, “It will catalogue the achievements of H.E. John Dramani Mahama.”

Five armed robbers who were arrested for attacking an employee of the Koala Shopping Centre in January this year have been jailed a total of 150 years with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.

The suspects are Stanley Obaliko and Okoe Quarcoe who sustained injuries during the robbery incident.

The other accomplices including Gilbert Osabutey aka Obolo, a Supervisor of Koala Shopping Centre, Michael Edor Ahiataku aka Old soldier, a private security man, and Frederick Sedro Kwame, were jailed after being charged with conspiracy to rob.

Obaliko and Quarcoe were sentenced to 39 years and 35 years respectively while Osabutey was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment.

Ahiataku and Sedro Kwame were also sentenced to 28 and 20 years respectively.

On January 6, this year, Osabutey, Ahiataku and Kwame hatched a plan to rob the Shopping Centre and sought the assistance of the two others, now at large, who also recruited Obaliko and Quarcoe to carry out the plan.

President John Mahama is appointing people from his area of origin into public offices, former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Professor Stephen Adei has alleged.

According to the outspoken academician, his own research points to the fact that one out of every four public appointments made by the president hails from his area of birth.



“One of the things going on which is totally unacceptable is about why one out of every four public sector appointment comes from the President’s area of origin.

A little girl named Jayda Handy died after she was hit by a car when she ran onto the road during her own birthday party. Jayda ran onto the road near North 84th and West Marion streets in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to greet her grandfather as he arrived for her party but was struck and killed by a car.

Speaking about what happened, Jayda's heartbroken father, Jaylen Handy said,
'It's just still unreal to me that this happened. She was just here preparing for her party all morning.. She saw her granddad, she ran over there. She was just a happy baby. Always happy. Always happy. Everybody loved her... everybody is going to miss her. She had an impact on everybody.'

Police said the driver remained at the scene after the accident but the girl sadly passed away.
