Wesley Girls alum graduates as medical doctor with record 12 awards

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Medical Sciences graduation saw a young lady sweep 12 out of 15 awards shattering the initial record which was 8 out of 15.

Fathia Ayodele Kareem, an alum of the Wesley Girls High School, was sworn in today [Saturday] as a medical doctor where she picked up the dozen prizes to the adulation of some on social media.

In 2015, the Traffic Avenue on Citi FM welcomed 24-year-old Charles Djugbah who broke the then 40-year old record by raking in 8 out of the 15 available awards at the end of his seven-year- course at the university.

But his record stood for just a year with Fathia setting a new benchmark for future classes.

An understandably overjoyed Fathia spoke to citifmonline and expressed her gratitude to God for seeing her through her seven year journey in medicine.

The future is undoubtedly bright for Fathia and she hopes to focus on pediatrics/child care, a field for which she won the Ben Baffoe-Bonnie prize…

Police in the Nanumba North district in the Northern region have found the four-day-old baby girl stolen at the Bimbila government hospital Friday dawn.

Two persons have also been picked up to assist with investigation.

The suspects are 42-year-old Nanyim Nakwaja, and Samira, 21, who are natives of Kunkuna, a suburb of Bimbila.

Facebook overhauls trending feature after bias claims

Social media giant Facebook has overhauled the Trending feature on its site to make posts more automated after claims of left-wing bias.
Facebook's 1.7 billion users see news stories and topics picked using a mixture of AI and human input.
Under the changes, descriptions of stories are no longer written by editorial staff, the company said.

Earlier this year Facebook was accused of suppressing conservative views, prompting complaints from Republicans.
A former journalist who worked for the company had alleged that Facebook workers "routinely suppressed news stories of interest to conservative readers".
In a blog post, the company said an internal investigation found no evidence of systematic bias.
But Facebook said it was making the changes to allow "our team to make fewer individual decisions about topics".
Users will still see personalised news, but the wording will be simplified and entries will focus on how many people are talking about them.
Staff will remain…

He said he "picked up" the candidate's own "kind of language" when writing it.
Two weeks before the note was written, Mr Trump tweeted to say he had "instructed my long-time doctor to issue, within two weeks, a full medical report", adding that it would "show perfection".

Mr Trump later highlighted the endorsement from Dr Bornstein, who faced questions about its exaggerated tone.
The doctor, of York's Lenox Hill Hospital, says he may have overstated the case "so that they [the Trump campaign] would be happy"…

"Tamim Chowdhury is dead," said senior police officer Sanwar Hossain, referring to the Bangladeshi-Canadian suspected mastermind.
Three other suspected militants were killed by police during the raid.

The cafe attack began on 1 July when the militants entered the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka.
They held hostages for 12 hours before police stormed the cafe, rescuing 13, killing six gunmen and arresting another.
Twenty hostages and two police officers were killed in the attack, the worst in the country's history.

Italy earthquake: Day of national mourning for victims

A day of national mourning has begun in Italy for the almost 300 people who died when a powerful earthquake hit mountainous central regions.
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is due to attend state funerals for victims from Arquata, one of the worst-hit towns.
A state of emergency has been declared in affected areas and €50m (£42m) in funds pledged for rebuilding.
The official death toll stands at 278 and no survivors have been found since Wednesday evening.
Despite this, the authorities say they will continue the search until they are certain everyone is accounted for.

Most victims were Italian, but several foreigners were among those killed, including three Britons.
Rescue efforts have been hampered by hundreds of aftershocks, with one severely damaging a key bridge into Amatrice.
"Let's hope it doesn't collapse or the town will be cut off from both sides," said Mayor Sergio Pirozzi.
Flags are due to fly at half mast across the country on Saturday as the country remembers vic…
