Miami Marlins baseball star Jose Fernandez dies in boat crash

Jose Fernandez, a pitcher for the Miami Marlins baseball team, has died in a boat crash at the age of 24.
The US Coast Guard said Fernandez was one of three people killed in the crash on Sunday, off Miami Beach, Florida.
A scheduled Marlins home game against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday has been cancelled.

The club said it was "devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time".
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Todd Garofalo told local news station WSVN: "They found a boat that was up against the jetties. They did do an initial search and they found three victims - two on top of the water, one underneath the boat and they had unfortunately passed away."

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the 32-foot vessel had a "severe impact" with large rocks that form part of the jetty.

(Photos) Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and children arrive in Canada

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have arrived in Canada with their children, five years after they visited the country as newly-weds.  
The couple, along with Prince George, three, and 16-month-old Princess Charlotte, were greeted by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire after landing in Victoria. 
William said his children were starting a "lifetime of friendship" with Canada. The trip is Charlotte's first official royal visit.

Later, in Victoria, the duke addressed a crowd of thousands outside the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, saying: "When we were here last time, we had been married only three months.
"The warm welcome that you gave us at that important moment in our lives meant a lot to us - and we have never forgotten it.
"That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time round, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country."

African Richest Man Dangote dismisses death rumours

Nigerian business mogul and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has dismissed reports making the rounds that he has passed on.
A story by said Mr Dangote, 59, has died in Germany after a short illness.
News of the death hit social media and within some few minutes, it went viral with people expressing shock, surprise and showing all sorts of emotions including bidding him farewell and praying he rests in peace.

However, on Sunday, September 25 at 1:25 p.m., Mr Dangote tweeting with the handle @AlikoDangote said, “hale, hearty and alive”. Please disregard malicious report saying otherwise. Thank you."

Boko Haram's Shekau says he is 'in good health' following claim of his death

The disputed leader of Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram has released a video message denying a claim by the military that he was killed or badly wounded in air strike last month.
Abubakar Shekau appeared healthy in the video in which he spoke in Arabic, Hausa and the Kanuri language. It is not clear when it was recorded.
Earlier this month, the Islamic State (IS) group - to which Boko Haram has pledged allegiance - announced that Shekau was being replaced as leader.

IS said he had been replaced by the lesser-known Abu Musab Albarnawi, but Shekau said he was still in charge.
"Oh tyrants, I'm in a happy state, in good health and in safety," Shekau said in the 40-minute video posted to YouTube.
In August the Nigerian army said that Shekau had been seriously wounded in the shoulder in an air raid in which several commanders were killed.
The military has yet to comment on the latest video.

Nursing Sch. Boss Beats Student For Rejecting His Love Proposal

Police at the Tafo Moro Market in Kumasi in the Ashanti region have arrested the managing director of a nursing training school in the area after he allegedly assaulted one of his students for rejecting his love proposal.

According to the victim, the jealous director of the cc, Owusu King, pounced on her after he spotted her talking to one of her male colleagues at school Friday night.

The victim who is currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said Owusu got even more provoked when he realized that she was recording his assault on her.

She told Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice that parts of her ribs and face have been fractured as a result of the number of slaps and punches she received in the attack.

Father of the victim who also spoke to Bediako Justice said the family will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion. He said his daughter had nothing amorous with the suspect.

Jordan writer in blasphemy case Nahid Hattar killed

A Jordanian writer charged with offending Islam after allegedly sharing a satirical cartoon on his Facebook page has been killed.
Nahid Hattar, a Christian, was hit by three bullets outside the court in the capital Amman where he was standing trial, state news agency Petra said.
Mr Hattar's killer was arrested and police are investigating the killing, TV reports said.

The writer was detained in August for 15 days on charges of insulting God.
The cartoon he shared depicts a bearded man lying in bed with two women and smoking, asking God to bring him a drink.
Mr Hattar was attacked on social media for being anti-Islam.
He said he had not meant to cause offence and wanted to expose radical Islamists' view of heaven. But the authorities said he had broken the law by sharing the cartoon.

The 42 year old rapper, who has two children doesn't seem ready to settle down yet. Two days ago there were rumours he had proposed to his girlfriend of over two years, Shantel Jackson after she shared a pic that looked like he'd proposed. 
Nelly has denied it via his IG page but says they are working on it. He dated Ashanti for nearly 10 years.

BNI detains writer over 'offensive comment' against Mahama

It's been confirmed that Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) is reportedly holding a Ghanaian-Lebanese pilot and author for making offensive statements against President John Mahama.

Fadi Dabboussie was arrested around midday on Friday upon arrival from an Egypt Air flight from Lebanon.

He was picked up from the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and driven to the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) headquarters in Accra.

This was on the invitation of the Director of BNI, Yaw Donkor according to Mr. Dabboussie's lawyer, Hassan Tampuli.

“I have been to the office of the BNI and I was denied access to him. I was told the officer responsible for the case was not in the office and that I can only have access to him on Monday,” Mr Tampuli told Joy News.

Mr Dabboussie is believed to be a sympathizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He is also the author of a book titled ‘59 years of Ghana to Nowhere: The future is Now,’ a book said to critical of President Mahama.


Bill Nunn, actor in Spike Lee and Spider Man films, dies

US actor Bill Nunn, who featured in Spider Man as well as films by the director Spike Lee, has died aged 63 at his home in Pittsburgh, his wife said.
The actor, best known for his role as Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, had been battling cancer.
Mr Lee paid tribute to his "dear friend" on social media, saying he was "resting in power".

Nunn went on to appear in dozens of films and TV programmes, including New Jack City and Sirens.

The friendship of George W. Bush and Michelle Obama

Saturday's dedication of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture brought together the president who signed into law the funding for the museum and the president who was in office during its completion.
But the gathering of the 43rd and 44th first couples also saw the reuniting of two unlikely friends.

Over the past eight years, former President George W. Bush and First Lady Michelle Obama have been seen becoming increasingly chummy. At public events, the two can often be found sitting next to each other, sharing a laugh or lending a hand to hold. 
Saturday's ceremony was no exception. During the event, Obama reached over and grabbed Bush into a hug as their spouses clapped and looked on.

This wasn't the first time the two have come together.

Washington mall shooting: 20-year-old suspect arrested

Arcan Cetin, 20, suspected of killing five people at a shopping mall in Washington state has been captured, police say.
The suspect in a shooting at a Washington state mall that left five dead and sparked an intensive, nearly 24-hour manhunt is in custody, authorities said.
Washington state police identified the suspect via Twitter as 20-year-old Arcan Cetin of Oak Harbor, Washington.
Authorities announced earlier that the suspect had been apprehended on Saturday evening. 
A gunman opened fire at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, on Friday night, killing four females and a male before fleeing.
The first emergency call came in just before 7pm on a busy Friday night at the Cascade Mall: A man with a rifle was shooting at people in the Macy's department store.
By the time police arrived moments later, four people were dead, and the shooter was gone, last seen walking towards a local highway.
