PSG/ Ivory Coast defender Aurier given two months prison sentence for Elbowing policeman

PSG and Ivory Coast footballer Serge Aurier,  has been sentenced to two months imprisonment and fined €600 (£521, $674) for elbowing a police officer at a Paris nightclub in May. The sentence is a suspended two months prison sentence meaning he will remain free and be able to play for his club pending an appeal.  Aurier has denied the charges, claiming he was also battered by the police man who approached him to take a breath test, while the police account states that the defender injured him so much that he had to take the next day off work. We're appealing. Mr Aurier contests the findings. He's not guilty and must be acquitted," lawyer Claire Boutard de la Combe told reporters.  The former Lens and Toulouse defender told French television in June: 'It was violent. Houston gunman who injured nine in mall attack was 'disgruntled lawyer'

Nine people have been injured in a shooting outside a shopping centre in Houston in the US state of Texas, one of them critically. The suspect, who was shot dead by police, has not been identified. Officials say he was a disgruntled lawyer who fired randomly at drivers.
Numerous weapons were found in what is believed to be the suspect's car, Houston's acting police chief said, adding there were no indications of anyone else being involved.

Police say they are also investigating the gunman's apartment and his social media accounts to try and establish a motive.

"The motivation appears to be a lawyer whose relationship with his law firm went bad,", Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told reporters.
Six victims were taken to hospital, and three were treated at the scene after being shot at while inside their cars, the city's acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo said. One of the victims is in a critical condition.

Filipina maid commits suicide

A Filipina housemaid committed suicide by consuming large number of medicinal pills inside here employer’s house in Firdous, Kuwait, on September 23. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the incident, security men and paramedics rushed to the location and examined the woman to discover she was dead. 
Her corpse was referred to the Forensics Department and investigations have been launched to determine the reason she killed herself.

President Mahama, I’m sorry – Fadi Dabbousi apologize

Barely 10 hours after his release from the cells of National Security, Fadi Dabboussi, has rendered an unqualified apology to President John Dramani Mahama and anyone hurt by his statement on social media.

Dabboussi, a journalist, an NPP sympathizer, a fierce critique of the Mahama administration and an author of “59 years to nowhere” was arrested upon his arrival from Lebanon at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday by National Security operatives. The arrest was premised by a statement he made on social media about President Mahama allegedly impregnating the daughter of Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II and questioning his HIV status.

In an interview with Peace FM’s Kokrooko Morning show host Kwame Sefa Kayi, on Monday, Fadi admitted that his statement caused his arrest and revealed that he retracted and apologised unequivocally to National Security when all was made clear to him.

Ghanaian afro-pop singer, Noella Wiyaala has revealed that John Dumelo is no more her celebrity crush igniting a debate among many people on social media that her disclosure last Friday was an attempt not to be seen aligning with any person who has publicly declared support for a political party as the December 2016 election nears.

Wiyaala who made her first appearance on the most popular satirical talk show in Ghana, Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thompson also indicated that one of the major physical features that attracts her to a man is his complexion.

“I used to have a crush on John Dumelo,” Wiyaala responded when asked by host Nii Kpakpo Thompson. Pressed further whether she still had that crush, Wiyalaa flatly stated, “No!!”

2013 Ghana’s ‘Most Strongest’ assaults two priests

The Mankranso Police are investigating the circumstances under which two Catholic priests were assaulted by a machoman at Mankranso last Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Sani Mohammed, is currently on police enquiry bail, while the victims, Rev. Father Anthony Awuah Boateng and Rev. Father Daniel Afum, are currently on admission at the St Edward Hospital and the Mankranso Government Hospital, respectively.
Mohammed, who is said to have won TV3's Ghana's Most Strongest contest in 2013, is alleged to have assaulted the two Catholic priests at Adugyama in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region.

Stanley Dural Jr., a Louisiana music legend whose stage name was Buckwheat Zydeco, has died. He was 68.
As an ambassador of Louisiana roots music, Dural traveled the world with his accordion, a ton of stage swagger and a deep love for his family and home state -- spreading the throbbing sounds of zydeco to millions of adoring fans.  "He died at 1:32 a.m. (Saturday) Louisiana time, keeping musician's hours right to the bitter end," longtime manager Ted Fox posted on the musician's website. American motivational speaker, anti-bullying activist and author, Lizzie Velasquez was dubbed the 'World's Ugliest Woman" in a video posted on YouTube when she was 17. She has a rare congenital disease which among other symptoms, prevents her from accumulating body fat. 

The condition resulted in bullying during her childhood and early youth. 
The 27-year-old from Austin, Texas, who has spoken out against bullying, was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome by the Baylor College of Medicine. She has zero percent body fat and is medically unable to gain weight. Additionally, she is blind in in her right eye and vision-impaired in her left eye. Doctors told her parents, at birth that she would never speak or walk. The doctors were wrong. In fact, at 27, she does both professionally. Magnificent Seven tops US box office

The Magnificent Seven has topped the US box office, taking $35m (£27m) on its opening weekend.
The film, which stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, is a remake of the 1960 western film of the same name.
Its closest competitor was animated children's movie Storks, which debuted at number two with $21.8m (£16.8m).

The two films knocked Tom Hanks's Sully, which has been top of the box office for the last two weeks, down to number three.
'Consistency and quality'
The movie, which tells the true story of the 2009 "miracle on the Hudson" emergency plane landing, took $13.8m (£10.7m).
Bridget Jones's Baby, which sees Renee Zellweger reprise her lead role in the third film in the franchise, was placed fourth with $4.5m (£3.5m).
Documentary film Snowden held its top five position after taking a further $4.1m (£3.2m) over the weekend.

Obama Petitioned Over ECG Sale

A concerned citizen who is fighting against the privatization of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has petitioned the US Ambassador to investigate what he says are ‘unethical’ and ‘unlawful’ acts in the whole deal involving the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
According to Richard Asante Yeboah, there is no transparency in the proposed Private Sector Participation (PSP) in ECG to be run by MiDA, a US government interest.

Copies of the petition, prepared on September 20, were also sent to US President Barack Obama, Speaker of the House of Representatives in the US, the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, both the majority and the minority leaders in parliament, as well as the Attorney General.
There is furore over the proposed privatization of ECG, state-run utility company, with the workers kicking against its privatization.

Mahama in Paris to meet Hollande, talk SDG

President John Mahama is in Paris, France, where he will be hosted by UNESCO on the occasion of the Organisation’s International Day for Universal Access to Information.

President Mahama who is the Co-Chair of the SDG Advocacy Group of the UN will take his audience through the importance of information and media to sustainable development, with a focus on Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda.
Goal 16 is dedicated to the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, the provision of access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable institutions at all levels.

Monday’s talk by President Mahama is being facilitated by UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and will be preceded by a number of panel discussions on various other goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Juventus confirm Ghana's Asamoah will be out 'for 45 days'

Italian side Juventus confirmed that their Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is expected to be out of action for six weeks after suffering a knee injury on Saturday.
Both Asamoah and Juventus' Italian defender Daniele Rugani were injured following the 1-0 win at Palermo in Serie A. 
The Italian champions and league leaders confirmed the news on their website after both players underwent tests at the J Medical centre on Sunday.

"Asamoah has suffered a rupture of the medial meniscus ligament in his right knee, while Rugani has a strained collateral lateral ligament in his right knee," said the club statement.
Asamoah is expected to "undergo keyhole surgery", while Rugani is set for more "moderate treatment", added the statement.
The injury means Asamoah will be out of contention for Ghana's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda on 7 October.

Lawyers To Sue BNI Over Fadi Daboussi’s Detention

Lawyers of Fadi Samih Daboussi, have indicated that they will take legal action against the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for the unlawful detention of their client.
The Ghanaian writer and journalist known to be a sympathizer of the opposition NPP, was reportedly arrested at the Kotoka International Airport last Friday for allegedly publishing a book which many say contains offensive comments about  President John Mahama.
Subsequently, the BNI is said to have ransacked his home.

Transgender couple become first in the world to give birth to their own biological baby

A transgender man, Fernando Machado who was assigned female at birth and his partner Diane Rodriguez, who was assigned male at birth, gave birth to a healthy child after conceiving with his transgender wife, making the couple the first transgender couple in South America to do so.

The couple who gave birth in June, live in Ecuador have expressed their desire to have more children.
 Machado told BBC: “We are the same as other families. Even though we might not have the same rights, we are the same,”
The transgender couple met after meeting on social media more than two years ago.

US golf legend Arnold Palmer dies at 87

US golfer Arnold Palmer, viewed as one of the greatest players in the sport's history, has died at the age of 87.

Palmer died at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was undergoing heart tests, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
The United States Golf Association also confirmed his death in a tweet calling him "golf's greatest ambassador".

During a long career he won more than 90 tournaments worldwide, including seven majors. 
Arnold Palmer was the most important golfer to play the game, said the BBC's golf correspondent Iain Carter. 
His force of charisma put the game on the map and it never dimmed, he added.
Fellow golfing great and a close friend of Palmer, Jack Nicklaus said he would "miss him greatly".
