Facebook Messenger 'slims down' for old phones

Facebook has announced a "slimmed down" version of its Messenger app for countries where older smartphones and slower net speeds are more common.
The company said Messenger Lite had the "core features" of the full app such as the ability to share text and photos.
The app will compete with Facebook-owned WhatsApp, which the company says is used by more than a billion people.
One analyst said offering a stripped-back service for developing markets would "drive adoption of services".

"Targeting users in emerging markets with 'lite' apps is not a new phenomenon," said Jack Kent, of the IHS Markit consultancy.
"Companies such as Google and Line also offer streamlined services for users in emerging markets.
"It makes sense to provide streamlined service to drive adoption of services rather than monetise users immediately."
Facebook was criticised in June after it removed access to messages from its mobile website, in an attempt to s…

Trump’s Charity Is Told to Stop Raising Money in New York

The office of New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has issued a “notice of violation” to Donald J. Trump’s foundation, ordering it to immediately stop soliciting donations in New York.
The letter, which was sent on Friday and released on Monday morning by Mr. Schneiderman’s office, said that its charities bureau had determined that the Donald J. Trump Foundation had been fund-raising in New York this year when it was not registered to do so under state law.
“The Trump Foundation must immediately cease soliciting contributions or engaging in any other fund-raising activities in New York,” wrote James Sheehan, the chief of the charities bureau.

Mr. Trump’s foundation has come under increasing scrutiny amid questions about his fulfillment of large charitable pledges and his lack of financial support in recent years.

The foundation’s compliance with the rules that govern nonprofit groups has also been a concern. The New York Times reported last month that Mr. Trump’s fo…

(Video) Nigerian actress Rahma Sadau banned after on-screen hug

A leading Nigerian actress has been banned from the Hausa-language film industry because of her "immoral" behaviour, the main industry body says.
Rahma Sadau caused offence by "hugging and cuddling" pop star Classiq in a video, it added.
The industry, commonly known as Kannywood, has been under fire from conservative Muslim clerics who accuse it of corrupting people's values.

They regard it as taboo for men and women to hold hands or kiss in public.
Ms Sadau, who is said to be on a holiday in India, has not yet commented on the ban imposed by Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (Moppan).
Its chairman, Muhammadu Kabiru Maikaba, told the BBC Hausa service that the ban was "total".
"This is not the first time that she has been doing these wayward things. We have been warning her, but she still went ahead to dent our image," he said.
The Kannywood star appeared in the video with Classiq, in a song entitled I Love You.
In it,…

And after appearing to have hung up his gloves, he seems to have reversed his initial decisio…

"This is against nature,"- Pope Francis warns against teaching kids about Transgender identity in schools

Leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis has stated his disagreement with teaching kids in school about transgender issues. According to the Pope, teaching kids to change their sexual identity is a war against marriage, saying changing a kid's mentality on sexual identity in schools is 'ideological colonization'.
On Sunday, during a return flight to Rome at the end of a three-day trip to Georgia and Azerbaijan, the Pope talked about a meeting with a French man whose young son wanted to be a girl after reading about it in a textbook in school.
According to the Pope, he still spends time with Transgender people, trying to lead them closer to God.

"This is against nature," he said. "It is one thing when someone has this tendency ... and it is another matter to teach this in school. To change the mentality -- I call this ideological colonization.

Today, in schools they are teaching this to children -- to children! -- that everyone can choose their gen…

La Liga Update: Real Miss Chance To Top The Table

Real Madrid missed the chance to move back to the top of the Primera Division table as they drew 1-1 at home to Eibar.
Atletico Madrid had leapfrogged their rivals earlier on Sunday, but Real were unable to move two points back in front of them and needed a Gareth Bale equaliser to earn them the draw.
Eibar took only six minutes to open the scoring, with Fran Rico heading home an Ander Capa delivery to stun the home crowd, but Real levelled in the 17th minute when Bale headed Cristiano Ronaldo’s cross beyond Asier Riesgo.

Bale and Ronaldo spurned chances after the break as Eibar held on for a point.
Atletico Madrid beat Valencia2-0 at the Mestella despite an outstanding performance by home goalkeeper Diego Alves.
Alves, La Liga’s record penalty-saver, stopped another two spot-kicks as he denied Antoine Griezmann and Gabi, also making a string of other good saves.
But the Brazil international was beaten when Griezmann made the breakthrough in the second half, and Kevin Gameiro put Atle…
