Dr. Dre Threatens To Sue Over Lifetime Movie Portraying Him As Abusive

Dr. Dre may be going from Straight Outta Compton into the courtroom.
TMZ reports that the rap legend has threatened to sue Sony Pictures over his portrayal in its upcoming Lifetime biopic. Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel'le is slated to debut October 15.

The former N.W.A. star is reportedly unhappy with the TV movie's depiction of him as an abusive boyfriend. Told from the perspective of singer Michel'le, who had a son with Dre before marrying and later divorcing Suge Knight, the film shows Dre beating and threatening his onetime lover.

A cease and desist letter sent by Dre (real name: Andre Young) reportedly denies any allegations of abuse, claiming that Michel'le never filed any police reports or sought medical treatment. Last year, however, he issued a statement of apology to the "women I've hurt" following outcry over Straight Outta Compton 's glossing over of his alleged abusive behavior.

Wayne Rooney: England captain dropped for World Cup qualifier

England captain Wayne Rooney says he is in a "difficult period" after he was dropped for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
Interim manager Gareth Southgate said the decision was tactical and not a reflection of the forward's form.
Rooney, who was booed by sections of the Wembley crowd during Saturday's 2-0 win over Malta, has not started Manchester United's past three matches.

The 30-year-old said there was "no embarrassment" in being on the bench.
Rooney will retain the captaincy but Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson will be the on-field skipper on Tuesday.
The United player is England's record scorer with 53 goals in 117 appearances, but has netted one goal in 12 games for club and country this season.
"My game now? Of course, I'm not denying it is in a difficult period. I've been on the bench the last few games for Manchester United but that's part of football," said Rooney, who is England's most-c…

(VIDEO) 'Supergirl' introducing Superman shows how DC differs from Marvel

"Supergirl" embodies how DC Entertainment differs from Marvel in plotting flight plans for its "cinematic universe," as the series uses a heavyweight to launch the second season's opening episodes by featuring her better-known cousin, Superman.
Marvel-DC comparisons aren't always fair. But as the two major comic-book brands engage in an arms race migrating characters to the screen -- backed by their movie studio owners, Disney and Warner Bros. -- they're unavoidable. While their divergent strategies each possess certain strengths, they also have their own forms of Kryptonite.

Unlike Marvel, which has sought to create a fully integrated universe in which all of its movies and TV shows coexist, DC has stated that individual properties can essentially operate on their own. That means Superman can wing into Supergirl's home town of National City without impacting the version of the Man of Steel played by Henry Cavill in the Warner Bros. mov…

"Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us," she shared with CBS correspondent Mo Rocca. "For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved... Yeah. I never kissed another man in my life. So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering, I said to myself, he's okay. And he deserves not to suffer."

The stars of new Disney film Queen of Katwe have praised the "uplifting" view of Africa it portrays on screen.

The British actor was speaking on Monday after the film's BFI London Film Festival premiere.
Directed by Mira Nair, the Disney film tells the true story of a young Ugandan chess champion.

"When we've seen African stories in the past they've been big, political subject matter - whether it's genocide, dictators, disease, child soldiers," Oyelowo said.
"But this [film] - about a 10-year-old girl from a slum who goes onto become a chess champion, someone who triumphs in the acquisition of her dream - is something that anyone can relate to."
Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o plays the mother of Phiona Mutesi (newcomer Madina Malwanga), a girl living in an impoverished district of the Ugandan capital Kampala who di…

"You can't sit there and disqualify me"! Furious candidate swears at EC boss

The flagbearer of the Independent People's Party (IPP) Kofi Akpaloo is furious with the Electoral Commission Chair for daring to disqualify him from contesting the 2016 elections in December.
Mr Akpaloo is one of 13 aspirants, including, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings who had their ambition of becoming president aborted even before the race for the elections begins.
Like others, the IPP flagbearer was disqualified because one of the persons who subscribed his forms was said to have subscribed the form of another aspirant.

By EC's regulations the aspirants were expected to have two persons from each district subscribing to their forms as part of the requirements of a presidential candidate.
But some of the party's flagbearers failed to meet that basic criteria, the EC chair declared, Monday hours after she had received their filing fees.
Mrs Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of the National Democratic Party for the second successive time failed to meet the f…

The Girl on the Train steams to top of US box office

The Girl on the Train has steamed ahead of its rivals to top the US box office on its opening weekend.
The thriller, starring Emily Blunt as an alcoholic trying to solve the mystery of a missing person, took $24.7m (£19.9m) - with 68% of the audience made up of women.
Last weeks's number one, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, made $15m (£12m) to take second place.

New entry The Birth of a Nation only made $7.1m (£5.7m).
The slave rebellion drama is written and directed by Nate Parker, who has faced recent media scrutiny over a historic rape trial and also stars in the film. It failed to make the top five in the North American box office.
On its opening night on Thursday, protesters held a silent vigil outside a Los Angeles cinema for victims of rape and sexual assault.
Recent media attention has been focused on Parker's acquittal for rape in 1999 and his accuser's subsequent suicide.

Polish film director Andrzej Wajda dies

Oscar-winning Polish film director Andrzej Wajda has died aged 90, the Polish Filmmakers' Association has confirmed.
He made more than 40 feature films in a career spanning 60 years.

In 2000, Wajda was awarded an honorary Oscar for his contribution to world cinema.

'Be alert to everything'
Wajda had been recently taken to hospital.
Unconfirmed reports say he died of lung failure.
Wajda's last film Powidoki (Afterimage) tells the life story of the avant-garde painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski, who suffered under the post-war Stalinist government in Poland.
The director said he wanted to "warn against state intervention in art".
The film was recently chosen as Poland's official entry for the best foreign language film at the 2017 Oscars.

CNN snap poll: Clinton won second debate

Hillary Clinton won the second presidential debate, according to CNN/ORC's post-debate poll, though respondents agreed that Donald Trump outperformed expectations.
Fifty-seven percent of debate-watchers in the poll said Clinton won, compared with 34 percent who said Trump did.

But 63 percent believed Trump did better than they expected, compared to a full 60 percent that thought Clinton either did worse than expected or did not outperform expectations.

It's a win for Clinton, but not as large as her margin in the first debate. Clinton won that debate by a margin of 62 to 27 percent in the CNN/ORC poll.

Sunday's debate in St. Louis is likely a pivotal point in the 2016 race, as Trump seeks to recover from a damaging leaked video where he boasts about groping women. The video, released late Friday, sparked calls from many prominent Republicans for him to drop out of the race.

Trump said during the debate that those comments did not reflect his views on women, but 59 per…

Broaddrick, an Arkansas nursing home administrator who has accused Bill Clinton of forcibly raping her when he was the state's attorney general, said that 'actions speak louder than words.'

'Mr. Trump may have said some bad words, but Bill Clinton raped me. And Hillary Clinton threatened me. I don't think there's any comparison.' Shelton who was raped at the age of 12 by a man whom Hillary Clinton defended in court was also present. She said: 'At 12 years old Hillary put me through something that you would never put a 12-year-old through.' 'And she says she's for women and children.
