Election 2016: 58 chiefs endorse Akufo-Addo

Fifty-eight chiefs in the Atwema Nkuwanwoma constituency of the Ashanti region are backing Nana Akufo-Addo to win the 2016 elections.

According to the chiefs, they have decided to declare their support to the candidacy of the NPP standard bearer because the governing National Democratic Congress led by President John Mahama has deserted them.
Speaking on behalf of the 58 aggrieved traditional leaders, Otumfuo Mpaboahene, Nana Yaw Owusu stated that the governing NDC does not recognize the constituency because of its long standing relationship with the NPP.

Announcing the endorsement of Akufo-Addo Wednesday at the Twedea Chief's Palace, he said: “If you will vote for the NPP again in this year’s election, clap your hands for the party.”

The support from the chiefs comes barely 47 days to the presidential and the parliamentary elections slated on December 7.

Bobby Shmurda gets 7 years after last attempt to drop plea deal

Bobby Shmurda took the rap Wednesday — after changing his mind too late.
The hip-hop hitmaker was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday under the terms of a plea deal worked out last month with Manhattan prosecutors.

But a suddenly reluctant Shmurda told Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Abraham Clott that his lawyer forced him into accepting the deal against his will.

“I was forced to take this sentence. I don't want to take this sentence,” Shmurda told the judge as flustered lawyer Alex Spiro stood alongside him in the courtroom. “I want to drop my plea.”

The rapper then addressed his lawyer directly: “I want to drop my plea and fire you.”

His last-ditch pitch fell on deaf ears as Clott imposed the agreed-upon sentence on Shmurda.

Shmurda, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of weapons possession just days before he was due to stand trial.

The Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, claimed that the gun was carrying when busted on Jun…

Polls show Mr Trump is losing in key battleground states after facing a slew of sexual assault allegations.
But Mrs Clinton remains unpopular with many US voters and has faced more bad headlines about her use of a private email server.

Most Americans will cast their votes on 8 November.
Millions are expected to tune into the third and final debate at the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, which gets under way at 09:00 EDT (01:00 GMT) and will be moderated by Fox News journalist Chris Wallace.

Vogue magazine backs Hillary Clinton in first-ever presidential endorsement due to 'profound stakes of election'

Vogue magazine, for the first time has given its public endorsement of a presidential candidate. The magazine announced on Wednesday that it has thrown it's weight behind Hillary Clinton for the White House race.

'Vogue has no history of political endorsements. Editors in chief have made their opinions known from time to time, but the magazine has never spoken in an election with a single voice. Given the profound stakes of this one, and the history that stands to be made, we feel that should change.'

'Vogue endorses Hillary Clinton for president of the United States.'

Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Baffoe says officials at the accounts office of the Electoral Commission (EC) are inefficient and unable to discharge their duties very well.
Reacting to errors on the receipt issued by the EC to the leader of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Papa Kwesi Nduom when filling his nomination forms, Kwame Baffoe wondered how these officials would be able to collate election results during the December polls.
The PPP said it is dragging the EC to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), and the Auditor-General, to investigate the Electoral Commission for giving them a receipt riddled with mistakes.

According to the party, they believe the EC “is on a course of a possible fraudulent act” because of the receipt which was issued for the payment of nomination fees for their presidential and parliamentary candidates.
