Bill Cosby delivered a legal blow - again

Bill Cosby's repeated efforts to get criminal sexual-assault charges against him thrown out were dealt another blow Wednesday, when a Pennsylvania judge denied two of his motions to dismiss.
In documents filed in Montgomery County outside Philadelphia, Judge Steven O'Neill denied Cosby's motion to dismiss the charges based on "deprivation of due process rights."  Cosby argues his rights have been violated because a previous district attorney promised years ago he would not be prosecuted.

O'Neill also denied Cosby's motion for a hearing during which his lawyers planned to question the "competency" of other women who have accused him of sexual assault over the last five decades. And O'Neill said no to Cosby's request for a behind-closed-doors hearing to question these potential witnesses.

But Cosby's effort to suppress a damaging 2005 deposition, in which he acknowledged obtaining drugs to give to women he sought for sex, is s…

PHOTOS: Inside Donald Trump's $100million Trump Towers penthouse

The president-elect will soon leave his palatial abode on New York's Fifth Avenue to take up residence at the White House. His tastefully furnished $100million pent house at the Trump Towers was decorated in a true billionaire style.

The three-storey property which he developed himself was completed in 1983. The opulent home has breathtaking views of Central Park and over-the-top decor starting with the gold and diamond front door that greets visitors.
Inside is an eccentric scene - floor-to-ceiling marble, chandeliers, pillows bearing Trump's coat of arms, statues and art worth millions of dollars.
It is currently home to Trump, his third wife Melania, 46, and their son Barron, 10. Its posh interior was designed by Angelo Donghia - also referred to as 'the Saint Laurent of sofas'. The designer took inspiration from The Versailles, the largest and most luxurious palace the world had ever seen, built by King Louis XIV of France who led an absolute monarchy from…

Tika Sumpter says mother was arrested for $10 library late fee

Actress Tika Sumpter says her mother was arrested and taken into custody on Monday — all because of a $10 late fee at her local library.
"Make sure you turn in your library books North Carolina," the actress began a lengthy Twitter missive. "My mom was just arrested for having a late fee of 10 dollars on an overdue book!"

The shocking arrest took place in Johnson County, N.C., where the Public Library of Johnson County & Smithfield calls home. According to the library's website, overdue books elicit a $.25 fine per day, while audio books, movies and CDs run an offender $.50 every 24 hours.
Nowhere on the website, however, does it mention the possibility of an arrest. But Sumpter, 36, implied officials at the library went as far as to put out a warrant for her arrest.
"Treated like a criminal for a late fee of 10 dollars for over due books from the library," she tweeted. "Libraries now put out warrants."
"An overdue book should …

EC must stop charging media accreditation fee - NMC

The National Media Commission (NMC) has condemned the Electoral Commission’s decision to charge accreditation fee from journalists who wish to cover the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the NMC, the EC should immediately rescind its decision.

On Monday, October 31, 2016, the commission hinted in a statement that journalists who would be covering the forthcoming polls would be required to pay a fee of GHc10 for accreditation.

The statement issued under the signature of the commission’s Director of Communication, Eric Dzakpasu read in parts that: “Accreditation tags will be given to only those who have formally applied for them and for a fee to be determined by the commission.”

The news angered the media fraternity including the International Standards Journalists Association (ISJA) who sued the commission.

The NMC has described the decision as unfair.

Speaking to Starr News' Daniel Nii Lartey, the NMC’s chairman, Kwesi Gyan-Appenteng said the move is…

Transition ‘is going so smoothly,’ Trump tweets

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to push back against news coverage suggesting that his transition to power is in chaos, saying the process of selecting Cabinet secretaries and working with the Obama administration “is going so smoothly.’’
Trump took particular aim at a favorite target, the New York Times, which reported Wednesday that the transition has been marked by firings and infighting, and that U.S. allies were having trouble reaching Trump at New York’s Trump Tower as he plans his government.

“The failing @nytimes story is so totally wrong on transition. . . . I have received and taken calls from many foreign leaders,’’ Trump wrote on the microblogging site that hosted his numerous incendiary tweets during the presidential campaign. He also denied reports that his transition team has sought security clearances for his children.

The Times reported that American allies were “blindly dialing in to Trump Tower” in an attempt to reach the p…

Angela Merkel to run for 4th term as Germany's Chancellor

Angela Merkel, the world's second most powerful person according to a Forbes 2016 ranking, is set to run for her 4th term as Germany's chancellor, according to a senior politician from her party- the Christian Democratic Union.

"She will run for Chancellor," Norbert Roettgen said on Tuesday on CNN's "Amanpour."
"She is absolutely determined, willing, and ready to contribute to strengthen the international liberal order. But we can't see the Chancellor or Germany as last man standing."

"The Chancellor is a cornerstone of this political concept of the West as acting as a global player. So she will run, and she will act as a responsible leader," Roettgen said.

"But it would be impossible to rely only on one person. We need the West, and the West is indispensable.

"And this of course means fundamentally and indispensably also the participation and contribution of the strongest part of the West, and this is the United…

Trump family dinner raises issues on press access

President-elect Donald Trump emerged from his New York skyscraper Tuesday night for the first time in days, moving about the nation's largest city without a pool of journalists on hand to ensure the public has knowledge of his whereabouts.
The president-elect spent about two hours dining with family at the 21 Club, a restaurant a few blocks from his Trump Tower residence. Journalists were only aware that Trump was leaving home when they spotted a large motorcade pulling away from the building, including an ambulance with lights flashing.

The movement was a surprise given that Trump's campaign had already called a "lid" — a signal to journalists that he would not be venturing out for the rest of the day. The practice is meant to ensure that journalists are on hand to witness, on behalf of the public, the activities of the president or president-elect, rather than relying on secondhand accounts.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks issued the lid at 6:14 p.m. But just o…

The Sun reported Kim has been referred to as Jin Pang Pang (Kim Fatty Fatty) and Kim Fatty III as well as Jin San Fei (Kim Abundant III) by Chinese web users. North Korean officials in Hong Kong have asked their comrades in China to stop the name-calling before Kim looks for someone to blame, Apple Daily reported.

Kim’s weight gain reportedly is the result of binge-eating and drinking to cope with fears of assassination and insomnia, South Korean intelligence reported.
Kim reportedly tasked scientists to develop a weight reduction pill that would work without diet or exercise. Ri Ran Hui, head of the Academy of Koryo Medicine, said the pill, developed from the skull cap plant, reduces brown and white fat tissue.
Kim, 33, is estimated to have gone from 198 pounds in 2012 to 286 p…

Syria conflict: Assad hopes for 'anti-terror ally' in Trump

Syria's leader has said he hopes US President-elect Donald Trump will be an ally in fighting terrorism but remains "cautious in judging him".
Bashar al-Assad said Mr Trump would be a "natural ally" if he fulfilled a campaign pledge to fight terrorism. But he said it was "dubious" whether Mr Trump could "live up to his promises".
Mr Trump had previously said it was "madness" to oppose both Syrian forces and IS militants, and that fighting Syria could lead to fighting Russia.

Conflict continues to rage in Syria. Government aircraft on Tuesday bombed besieged rebel-held eastern districts of the city of Aleppo for the first time in three weeks, activists said.
More than 300,000 people have died since the Syrian civil conflict began in March 2011.
'Very cautious'
Speaking to Portugal's RTP state television, Mr Assad said: "We cannot tell anything about what he's going to do, but if... he is going to fight the ter…

He reportedly placed an ad on  Facebook through a local modelling agency employee known only as Daniela. The ad asked for eight girls to party with Bieber within an hour, at downtown Hemingway Bar in the Czech capital shortly after his gig but only 6 showed up because of the short notice.
When the news made rounds on social media, one of the girls who responded to the ad, a law student Anna, explained that a confidentiality agreement had been put in place, forbidding anyone from talking about their evening with Justin - but insisted it was 'not like people thought it was.'

'You think that he chose the girls to enjoy the night with them, but he wanted to give someone else a pleasant experience. He talked to us as a normal person would,' she wrote.

Twitter unveils upgraded tool to address online abuse, bullying, and harassment

Online news and social networking service, Twitter, has upgraded a tool on their platform, which can now be used more effectively to avoid harassment and online attacks by trolls. Read their statement below:
"The amount of abuse, bullying, and harassment we’ve seen across the Internet has risen sharply over the past few years. These behaviors inhibit people from participating on Twitter, or anywhere. Abusive conduct removes the chance to see and share all perspectives around an issue, which we believe is critical to moving us all forward. In the worst cases, this type of conduct threatens human dignity, which we should all stand together to protect.Because Twitter happens in public and in real-time, we’ve had some challenges keeping up with and curbing abusive conduct. We took a step back to reset and take a new approach, find and focus on the most critical needs, and rapidly improve. There are three areas we’re focused on, and happy to announce progress around today: co…
