Hosts Cameroon open women's Nations Cup with victory over Egypt

Hosts Cameroon opened the 2016 women's Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory over Egypt in front of a home crowd which included Cameroon's President Paul Biya and national football legend Samuel Eto'o. 
Goals from Aboudi Onguene and captain Manie Chrisitine gave the Indomitable Lionesses a winning start to their campaign.
Later in Yaounde, South Africa and Zimbabwe were set to meet in the second Group A fixture in a southern African derby.

Cameroon piled on the pressure early on but failed to make their final balls into the area count, frequently finding the Egyptian defence. 
However the home side found a way through in the 23rd minute when a cross from Falone Meffoumetou from the right was met by the head of Aboudi Onguene whose glancing header beat the goalkeeper and went over the line off the post.

Trump demands apology from Hamilton cast after Mike Pence booed

The US vice-president elect, Mike Pence, was booed by a theater audience when he attended the hit hip-hop musical Hamilton in New York on Friday night – and then had a message about protecting diversity delivered to him from the stage after the curtain call.
On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump accused theatre-goers of having “harassed” Pence, writing on Twitter: “Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing.This should not happen!”
He also demanded an apology: “The Theater must always be a safe and special place.The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”

On Friday night, as Pence entered the auditorium for the Broadway show at the Richard Rogers Theater, video taken by onlookers and posted to social media picked up some audience members cheering him, then more people booing him.

Pope Francis names 17 new cardinals of Roman Catholic Church

Pope Francis has named 17 new cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church from around the world, many of whom will help choose his successor.
The new cardinals come from five continents, and include the Vatican's envoy to Syria.
The range of backgrounds "represents a break with custom", said the BBC's David Willey in Rome.

Pope Francis has now chosen close to a third of the College of Cardinals who will ultimately pick who succeeds him.
Only cardinals under the age of 80 can vote on the next Pope. Thirteen of those named cardinals on Saturday are under 80, and are now eligible to succeed him.
It is the third time in three years that Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope, has named new cardinals. 
He has used each opportunity to promote members from outside the College's traditional European base.
The new cardinals come from countries including the Central African Republic, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Mauritius, among others.

Peruvian man walks into hospital with knife sticking out of his head (video/pics)

Clever Campos, a 28yr old taxi driver in Peru stunned doctors when he walked into a hospital with a knife sticking out of his head. Passersby spotted him walking around in a daze with the weapon lodged deep in his head after he was reportedly knifed by another man following an argument.

An ambulance was called and he was taken to Loreto Regional Hospital, where he was filmed walking in himself accompanied by a surprised looking paramedic.
He underwent four hours of surgery, remaining conscious throughout, as the knife was finally removed.
The man remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Henry Saldana, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing Mr Campos.
He allegedly admitted to stabbing Mr Campos because he thought he had stiolen his motorbike, which the victim used as a taxi.

VIDEO: Nigerian actor Osuofia features in NDC advert

Nigerian actor, Nkem Owoh, popularly known in showbiz as Osuofia, has featured in a National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign advert.
The actor appears in an advert dubbed ‘This is the new Ghana’ which catalogues the achievements of President John Mahama’s government.
Osuofia, who recently said he was invited into Ghana by President Mahama, through Nigerian businessman Dele Momodu, has for some time now been touting the achievements of the NDC government.
He was a surprise guest at the unveiling of the Trust Sports Emporium (Bukom Boxing Arena) in Accra on Tuesday, November 15.
The actor expressed excitement at the transformation being enjoyed by the country saying, “transforming gradually on a very positive note and that makes me salute the president. I think he is doing a lot of work in Ghana”.
In the about a minute campaign advert, the popular Nollywood actor is seen arriving in Ghana through the Kotoka International Airport totally amazed at the transformation of the place.

Gunmen Attack NPP Members At Sankore

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Asunafo South Constituency, George Yaw Boakye, narrowly escaped death yesterday when gunmen, believed to be members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), shot him in his residence at Sankore in the  Brong-Ahafo Region.
Though Mr Yaw Boakye, former law maker, managed to escape unhurt, two members of his campaign team – Kofi Boakye and one only named as Taller – sustained various degrees of injury from the gunshots.
They are currently receiving treatment at the Goaso Government Hospital.

During his recent visit to the area, the NPP flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, bemoaned the brutalities being visited on the people by purported appointees of the ruling government.
The people of the community, especially members of the NPP, cannot openly express their political views, for fear of being attacked by elements believed to be NDC activists.
Thursday’s attack was part of the ongoing brutalities.

Akufo-Addo writes: After 8 years of NDC, Ghanaians are looking for change

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said Ghanaians are desirous of change in government because they are disappointed with the performance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an article published in an international news magazine, Newsweek, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said no one can stop the wind of change sweeping through the country.
According to him, Ghana is getting lots of accolades for being a trailblazer among its peers which has "often flattered only to deceive."

Trump settles Trump University lawsuits for $25m

Donald Trump has settled three Trump University lawsuits for $25m (£20m), the New York Attorney General has said. 
The US president-elect was being sued by former students who paid $35,000 (£28,000) for real estate "secrets" from his "hand-picked" instructors.
Mr Trump had repeatedly said he would not settle the class-action lawsuits.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the settlement was a "stunning reversal" by Mr Trump and a "major victory" for victims.
But Mr Trump's lawyer Daniel Petrocelli said his client was pleased with the outcome, saying "he was willing to sacrifice his personal interests, put this behind him, and move forward".
The businessman faced three fraud lawsuits - which alleged the school misled students and failed to deliver on its promises - in California and New York.

Sharon Jones Dies at 60

Sharon Jones died on Friday, her publicist has confirmed. She was 60. 
"We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings," said a statement.

In lieu of flowers it is asked donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation, the James Brown Family Foundation and Little Kids Rock.

In 2013, the soul singer announced she had been diagnosed with bile duct cancer and underwent surgery, postponing the release of her and the Dap-Kings' last album of original material, Give the People What They Want, which was released in 2014. Her diagnosis was later changed to stage II pancreatic cancer, for which Jones had surgery on her liver and underwent chemotherapy.

In 2015 at the Toronto International Film Festival, Jones revealed that her cancer had returned and she wold be undergoing chemotherapy again.
