But now the pair have come face to face in Doha, according to Qatar's 2022 World Cup organising committee.
Barcelona are in Qatar to play a friendly against Al Ahli on Tuesday and Ahmadi will walk out on to the pitch with Messi.
"The image the world wanted to see," tweeted the Supreme Committee on Tuesday. "The six-year-old boy who dreamed of meeting his hero, #Messi, finally comes true."
Ahmadi, who comes from the Jaghori District, in the eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, was forced to flee the country to Pakistan in May.

Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin clarified his plans to hand the helm of his 634 billion yuan ($91.7 billion) property-to-media empire, Dalian Wanda Group Co., to professional managers as the tycoon’s only son didn’t seem to be interested in following his father’s footsteps.
"I’ve asked my son and he said he didn’t want to live a life like mine," Wang, 62, said in a forum in Beijing on Saturday, according to a transcript of his speech. This is the second time the Chinese tycoon, with a net worth of $31 billion, commented on the matter for the record. He first floated the idea of letting a professional take over on a Chinese TV show in May.
"Perhaps it’s better to hand it to the professional managers,” Wang said. “We can guide them from the board. We will not set our eyes on a particular candidate, rather selecting someone from competition."

Wang Sicong, 29, the mogul’s only son, holds a 2 percent stake in Wanda. The 29-year-old is an Internet celebrity in Ch…

Yaya Toure: Man City player accepts drink-driving charge

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has pleaded guilty to drink-driving, but says he had not "intentionally consumed alcohol".
The Ivory Coast player, 33, told a court he thought he was drinking diet cola from a jug at a party, without realising it had brandy in it.
Toure did not challenge the charge as he was "above the permitted limit".

He was fined £54,000 - a means-tested fine - and banned from driving for 18 months by Barkingside magistrates.
"It is well known that I am a Muslim and do not drink, said Toure. "I have always refused alcohol." Toure was driving in Dagenham in east London at the time of the offence last month.
Barkingside Magistrates Court said Toure had an alcohol reading of 75 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath - more than twice England's legal limit of 35 micrograms.
He pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday, but did not say in his Facebook statement how the alcohol got into his system.

Melania Trump appears in court in defamation case

Incoming First Lady Melania Trump attended a routine scheduling hearing in court Monday in her defamation case against blogger Webster Tarpley and The Daily Mail who published a blog post saying that she was previously employed as a high-end escort.
CBS News’ Paula Reid notes that it’s highly unusual for a client to attend a routine scheduling hearing, but her lawyers said she decided to do so to show her commitment to the case. It is almost impossible to win a defamation suit if you’re first lady, but Trump’s willingness to spend her time and money on the case may have a deterrent effect, preventing others from saying negative things about her.

“Mrs. Trump was not required to attend the court conference, but chose to do so, to meet the Judge, meet opposing counsel, and show her commitment to the case,” a statement said on behalf of Mrs. Trump. “Mrs. Trump looks forward to seeing the case to a successful conclusion.”

The hearing took place in Montgomery County Circuit Court …

Mr Schmitt-Matzen said he had asked family members to remain outside the room if they were going to break into tears when he arrived for the visit.

'For a guy like me, who grew up in a poor neighbourhood and had no money, it was dangerous.' 'In life it is important to recognise the bad. Thanks to the mistakes, I am what I am.' I was a very impulsive person and maybe I'm smarter now.'
