The first thing fraternal twins Danielle Grant and Kim Abraham
want to make clear is that their original due dates (April 22)
were the same day.
And that was a "total coincidence," Grant told the
Asbury Park Press.
"We both wanted babies, but we didn't think we would get pregnant the same time," she told the newspaper.
"This was not planned."
But when that date came and went and they still hadn't given birth, the sisters decided to induce on the same day. On Friday, April 30, they both gave birth to bouncing baby boys.
Grant, who already has a 2-year-old daughter, gave birth to 8-pound, 12-ounce Roman at 11:42 a.m. Abraham, a first-time mom, delivered 9-pound, 12-ounce Aaron at 3:21 p.m.
It is an extremely unique situation, Olga Malpica Proctor, associate mathematics professor at Brookdale Community College, told the newspaper. She says he odds of twin sisters giving birth on the same day are about 8 in 100,000, which is roughly the same odds of someone getting struck by lighting once in their lifetime. The odds that both of those babies are the same gender is approximately 4 in 100,000.
"That is just so amazing," Proctor told the Asbury Park Press.
The twins, 32, both live in Toms River, New Jersey, and plan to make sure their sons grow up as close as can be.
"We'll dress them in the same outfit," Grant told the newspaper. "We were dressed alike but in different colors growing up, so we're going to torture them like that, too."
