Annan Forson petitions National Media Commission over ‘porn’ stations
Two broadcasters have petitioned the National Media Commission and
the Ministry of Information against TV XYZ, Ice TV and Thunder TV for
showing hard core pornographic materials on their screens.
Ace broadcaster Tommy-Annan Forson and James Kwasi Oberko on Monday,
June 12, made the complaint against the three television stations in
Ghana for showing contents with pornographic scenes.
Speaking on Starr Today Monday, Mr. Annan Forson said “the showing of
these pornographic movies is a serious issue which needs to be
tackled”.
According to the former General Manager of Radio XYZ “these kind of
movies when aired on television are dangerous to the upbringing of the
children.”
He mentioned that the rate of teenage pregnancy in the country can be
attributed to the kind of pornographic movies shown on those stations.
Mr. Annan Forson is by his petition demanding that the media
commission tackles the issue immediately based on the evidence that has
been presented to them.
He added that they would later serve the National Communications
Authority, the Chief Justice and Speaker of Parliament copies of their
complaints.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NMC, Mr. George Sarpong
congratulated the two broadcasters for taking such a bold step in the
interest of Ghana and assured them of their support.
“I want to thank you for the effort that you put into this and I hope
that we will get back to you. In fact, this gesture shows there is a
lot of hope for the media landscape.”
