Police release disturbing CCTV footage of the moment Drake's friend was murdered
Toronto police have made the decision to release shocking CCTV footage that shows the moment a close friend of rapper Drake was murdered in an ambush.
Anthony
Soares was shot dead by two masked gunmen as he waited to be buzzed
into an apartment building just before 3am on September 14.
The
men opened fire through a glass door at close range, with Soares having
nowhere to run as the men gunned him down before fleeing into a waiting
getaway car.
Security
cameras caught the entire attack, as well as catching the four-door,
white Ford Fusion car that allowed the attackers to escape as
33-year-old Soares died on the ground.
Authorities
have made the decision to release the disturbing footage in a bid to
identify the killers, with Homicide Detective Sergeant Gary Giroux
explaining: “In essence, the deceased was trapped between the inner
foyer area and the offenders, who were on the opposite side of the
glass.”
Following his brutal murder, Drake took to Instagram to pay tribute to his friend.
Sharing
a photo of Soares, who was father to a young daughter, the star wrote:
“RIP to one of our family members… Our brother… I still can’t even
believe this morning was real.
“It was a honour to have shared years together and I will always keep your memory alive.”
Detective Sergeant Giroux urged Drake to use his fame to try and find
the culprits, saying: “Many of the family members have met Drake and I
certainly would encourage him, through his tweets, to encourage anybody
within the community to come forward with regards to any information
they may have that might assist in solving his friend’s murder.”
