Two arrested with fake currency in Ashanti Region

Police in the Ashanti Region are holding two youngmen in custody for producing fake currency.

The two; Dauda Issah, 31 and Osman Issah, 30 were arrested on Thursday 31st August 2017 at Adum in Kumasi.

The Police have also retrieved a machine suspected to be used in the production of the fake notes. A sum of Ghc14,000 fake currency all in ten cedi denomination was also retrieved from the suspects.

Briefing the media on the arrest, the Ashanti regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Juliana Obeng said the suspects “had in their possession several fake ten cedi notes which they intended to distribute into the system since they could easily pass as genuine.”

She said efforts are being made to arrest their accomplice identified as Malam Abdul Raheem Suleiman who “we suspect to be in Techiman or in Tamale.”

Meanwhile, the two suspects are being prepared for court, she added.

Police have also paraded four suspects who were arrested with substances suspected to be cannabis. They were picked up at Ahwerewa, a suburb of the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti region.

ASP Obeng said the exhibits will be sent to Accra for forensic analysis.
